Frag swap requests

Ok I was curious about something....I have attended the last 2 Tenn frag swaps (ETRC & MTRC) and I loved the prebuy/presell threads. So I was curious where everyone would be posting them? I just know that the Chattanooga forum doesnt really have activity in it.

You trying to create some kind of underground market
subjugating all the eager landlocked ocean deprived reefers who
drive from all over the Southeast just for a once a year shot at
some super cool corals??

I say let our frag swap remain an open market for all, my friend!!
....from the quick cunning and crafty to to the lazy and
technologically abstinent, from those who don't post to those
who whose posts are Shutdown by our big brother moderators.... we will have OUR FREEDOM!!!!!!!!

Check reef2reef .com for the Chattanooga stuff I would think.

Ours will be posted here for sure. Just not 6 months before hand. :D

Dawg... you feelin' ok? :D

This was debated a bit last year, but there is a lot of preselling and trading that goes down. There's still plenty to buy at the swap. :)

Oh I agree...I prebought /presold and then when I got to the swap I bought even more. I remember before my first swap I was concerned that everyone was preselling and wouldnt have anything left....not the case at all!! I think I noticed that things I bought before hand were things that wouldnt have been brought to the swap.

Not to start a pre-buy/sell war, but especially for high end stuff, it is hard to justify fragging something if you don't know for sure it is going to sell at the price you're asking... so while I agree with your sentiment Dawg, in practice it is not so easy and I think the end result would be less variety offered if pre-selling was not allowed for.

There is a little info on Reef2Reef, but not much.

The topic of presales are always heated, but I honestly don't follow the arguement. I have been to every frag swap in the area since we started having them and have never seen a shortage of corals. Many don't have frag tanks to grow out corals, so they only do pre sales. For those of us who bring a lot of stuff, it's always a crap shoot as to whether you'll actual sell enough to justify the trouble. With presales, I can get an idea for what kind of things people seem interested in. It's a prett big let down when you don;t make enough to cover the trip up because you bring SPS to a swap where no one wants SPS, then you loose over 50% of what you brought on the way home (traveling tanks can more easily succumb to the domino effect).

I can understand the concern, but rarely does someone that plans on bringing coral in addition to presales (those with room to grow them out) not have more of whatever they presold. The good stuff usually goes fast, though, once the swap starts up.

Speaking only for myself, my first frag swap was last year and it was scary to me to think that a lot of the good corals would be gone beforehand. Turns out thats just false fears. :)

False fears, False shmears. The Chuck Norris I know and eat breakfast with every Saturday morning at 4:15am, moments after our routine meditation has no fear...

I for one shall remain abstinant from any of this pre-swap peddling. I am the guy with hands in pockets eyeing all of the coral candy trading hands quiet, emotionless. Until the moment... the MOMENT of panic that sets into each and every vendor. With happy fat greenback sacks they gaze upon the rejects wondering "what on dryland am I going to do with all of these leftovers??!"

That my reefer friends is when my 5's and 10's look like 10's and 20's. Oh, sure... most of you wouldn't put brown hammers, bleached SPS, and teeny unindentifiable frags into your show tanks. Just don't burst my brown bubble. This colorless world of mine is simple bliss. Beans and weenies on a steak budget for this happy camper! And this for sure is truly Freedom!

That's how I was like at the first meeting I attended. Buying everything at the last minute and got bunch of stuffs that I enjoy having even though they are not the best. But that's when I bought something that I really regret too as well, when my nightmare started with bryopsis..... You know out of all that time I had my Naso Tang in there who NEVER touch this stuff eats it like candy now years later. Why didn't he do that before so I wouldn't lost so much.....

I would say one thing about pre-sales, IF you already pre-sold someone stuffs, keep it that way! It's already happen to me numerous times that they sold mine to someone else, especially when I was the first to respond.....

Sometimes the brown ones are the best finds... especially when they don't cost you much.

The waning minutes of a swap are more of a swap... I know I'm much happier to trade corals I would have to bring home as long as its something I don't have. If I have to find space, I might as well be finding space for something new.

That my friend was awesome! You should write a book! LOL!

actually started school to be a preacher..., pastor

??I guess you hear my tone?? i don't know if people around here are just dry.. personality conditionally allowed after 100 and 50 posts. maybe they would accept me if there was a sound button of the Cable Guy reading :thumbdown

Dawg, you've got more creative posts in this thread then I've seen on the internet in awhile in general ;)

Its rather difficult to express emotion or wit via the written word. If anything the Internet (Forums, chatrooms etc) have giving me a higher respect for people who can write well, and shown me there are a HELLOVA lot of people who still dont write for crap, but think they can. Thus the Blog was born. :P I still think Blog is perhaps the worst word the internet has come up with. I like LAWL better.

edit:
And I HATE LAWL.

thanks dawg. yeah, red bull clove cigarettes and emailing $8k worth of invoices to customers with a $10k AP stack well after my bedtime seems to jumpstart those voices... I mean creative voice. And for those of us familiar with anti-depressants.., you are only truly crazy if you can't admit it.

I'm really just kidding. about the voices that is. :smokin:

Anyone interested in lobbying for a better selection of emoticons. After about 85 posts the selection gets a little lame.

Headed to the AC
