We had a frag swap down here in West Palm Beach Florida. and I got a Steve ellas frag from a local hobbyist and an Ice Fire Ecinata from a very popular store in Orlando. I dipped both corals in coral rx and lugols solution and the frag from the popular store in Orlando was covered in red bugs. So everybody please remember to dip your frags. you never know who is selling infected corals.:fun2:

Woooo I almost bought that icefire echinata from dre.
he had 4 left when I got to his booth

got an ultimate stag 2.0 and sunset millie instead

after 17 years I got tagged with bugs/worms this winter. Lost 60% of my tank.

I will NEVER put anything in my tank again until I dip it and QT it for 2 - 4 months. NEVER

Thanks for the post, sent you a PM

If this is the store I'm thinking about, I find that shocking. Are you sure it was from this store and not the other coral?

First store that came to my mind was WWC. I pm'd the op and he said it was not that store. Just thought this should be mentioned here.

cultivated coral is where is got the steve elias frag from and i had no problems with that frag, while dipping it the frag came out clean, thank you cultivated coral for the beautiful frag. the truth is I should have never made this post because I spoke with the vendor and they have corrected this mishap for me. Israel please dip everything you get and don't believe every PM you get.

Thanks for clarifying that. I appreciate it.

Sure I'll dip, but also I wont buy from a place with parasites knowingly. You lied to me in the pm? I'm confused.

well i am still finding signs that red bugs do indeed lay eggs.

"Lifespan and Reproduction

I believe this is still being debated but the typical consensus is 3 to 5 days, although research has shown after 3 days the Red Bugs are pretty much dead. We do know that Red Bugs can not survive in a system without Acropora species corals, they will simply die. They are direct developers so there is no larval stage to worry about. Red Bugs basically hatch, eat, lay eggs and die.

Red Bugs pretty much stay stationary, however they do swim well, therefore they are not limited to a single colony. Some can embed themselves into the coral making very difficult to remove consuming coral tissue.

This is some really good information when it comes to treatment and eradications of this pest; Life span is 3-5 days, they are free swimmers and egg-layers. Armed with this knowledge several hobbyist have tried many different treatments and as a result of their ‘experiments’ it is now possible to stop the red bug infestation completely."
