Frag tank first?

I was looking into starting a frag tank before setting up a main tank. My reasoning behind this is selecting the coral(s), clams, etc that I want and letting them mature first. That way later on I could build a main tank and put everything in there once the water is safe and my live rock is cured. Good or bad idea?

First tank that should be set up is a quarantine tank assuming you are wanting to do fish, you could set up a frag grow out tank I guess, however it's the opposite of the norm.

I would just setup a QT, get your main tank going and let them grow out in the display, then if you have the fortune of success then maybe set up a frag tank for trimmings.

i agree i think it would be much easier to setup and cycle a main system and then plum in a frag tank once your display is doing well
