Frag Tank Ideas

i am planning to set up a frag tank soon. I am thinking of the following dimensions since it will fit on a stand that i already have. 3ft long 2ft tall and 2ft front to back. i have a tank room in the basement so space is not an issue.

Here are my questions

1) are those dimensions acceptable

2) Planning to connect to the main system. i know i cannot quarantine the corals and treat for bugs with this setup. any oth disadvantages

3) Glass or acrylic? i am not good at DIY. the guy i talked to will build me one but with 3/4inch acrylic being so expensive he is charging me $300. The guy said 1/4inch could do the job but i am nervous as to how stable that is, especially if i am connecting to the main system. not sure how much a glass tank will cost since it will have to be a custom one.

4) overflow -built in or overhang box

5) flow of some kind- i have not given too much thought to

6) i have a few lumenarc mini reflectors and ballasts sitting around so i could hang a pendant from the ceiling in the tank room.

thanx

Hello Vivek, nice meeting you last night. I would say no to the 1/4" acrylic as well. $300 for 3/4" sounds like a good deal to me. Not sure it needs to be 2' tall as this will make lighting more difficult but that is just my opinion.

ESquare makes good points. Only thing where the 2 feet would be a required would be if deepwater corals and you have the option of how high to make them easier. Something in the 12 inch high may actually work out the best for frags. If you can get the 3/4, wow that will be nice a durable.

I agree, it was great to meet folks in person who hang around in the forum. i might decrease the height to 18 inches.

Vivek, Thanks for stopping by last night. It was nice to meet you in person. I cleaned up one of those reflectors this morning. I used acetone and white t-shirt material rags. I had the rags pretty wet and kept turning the rag so the rag wiped the reflector clean and did not just smear it. It looks pretty nice. I also cut your pieces for the overflow box this morning. I will keep moving forward on that project.

Thanks again, Keith
