fragging a frog

I have a large frogspawn that is starting to sting corals around it. I know that I can break (cut) the calcified skeleton beneath the soft tissue. I will keep it as far away from the soft as possible but there is only about one inch or so, will this be ok? Also How do I break it, I thought about a few taps with a hammer? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I like to use a Dremmel and just cut the skeleton, I like to leave about 2-3" of skeleton if possible. I have fragged and had less, 1" or so, and the frags have done fine.

I've had good luck with using small cutting pliers (wire cutters or bone shears). They don't have to fit all the way around the skeleton. You can snip away at it until it breaks by itself or it's small enough to snap off by hand. The skeleton isn't very hard.

I've even done this underwater but I prefer to take the coral out of the tank if possible to avoid putting the pliers in the tank.
