fragging branching hammer

I have a head of branching hammer that is very large and I was planning to cut some frags off it to make it smaller thus keep it from breaking in half and give some frags away to some people that have been asking for them. How do I cut frags from the main head? There are several very small mini heads at the base of many branches can I cut the branches at the base with these little heads or can I cut the branches at the base regardless of if there are little teeny tiny heads at the base of a branch. Here is a picture of what the heads look like you can barely see the tiny heads at the base of the branches.

Thanks,

You can break it/cut it anywhere you don't see flesh. It is best to go back down the skeleton at least an inch or so, because there is also flesh inside the skeleton -- and besides, it will be easier to mount without damaging or suffocating the flesh. (Causes infection.)

For the mini heads, as soon as you have a bit of skeleton on them, you can carefully snap those off with a pair of tweezers. They can be mounted with superglue and they will grow out. The mini heads underneath usually don't survive otherwise, because the bigger heads starve them for light, but fragged off they have a pretty good survival rate.

Thanks Nicole, I figured that was how it was done I just needed to make sure now I will have to find room for all of the little mini heads I am going to have :D.

Sam I was not planning on selling them I would rather trade them I owe a couple of guys I work with a frag of it that I had promissed and also I wanted to get some frags ready for the frag swap on 4-30 I am really hoping I will be able to make that.

Mounting the little itty bitty heads takes practice... and a delicate touch! :D But it's not what you'd call hard, and the chance of damage to the parent colony is low.

Also works for frogspawns.

I want to see pictures of your mini hammer farm when you are done!

first time fragging a head of branching hammer

I fragged some frags from one of my branching hammer heads today thank you to NicoleC for the advice they look great. I cut just a few head clusters off it was easier than I thought the diamond wheel on my dremmel cut the skeleton like butter it was tough doing it by myself I needed another pair of hands to keep the head from falling after it was cut so I stopped after 4 clusters maybe in a few more weeks I will finish cutting some clusters of heads off the main base. Nicole, I did not snap any of the mini heads off and mount them instead there was a lot of distance between the top heads and the mini heads of bare skeleton (almost 3") so I cut the top heads off well below the flesh and left the mini heads intact at the bottom of the base with almost 2" of bare skeleton above them I figured it would be easier and less stressful for them so now they can get light, food and flow and hopefully will grow out. Below are pics of the frags 15 minutes after being cut
