What a nerve racking task that was. I'm not sure if i even did it correctly. It has gotten so big in the last few months that the mag float was about to hit it and a coral below it was so starved for light that it is turning white.

I just pushed on it until it chipped in to frags, glued them to small rocks and have them sitting in the bottom of the tank. I really hate the way everything looks now, that cap was great looking it just ran out of room.

Is there a better way to trim it without chunking it up and leaving the original coral looking terrible?

All my other SPS are a piece of cake i just bone cut branches but this coral encrusts and plates so its a bit messier than i like.

When mine got too big, I pulled it out, took it down to the fish room, and promptly dropped it on the floor. (on purpose) I used superglue and small rocks, frag plugs, etc to attach the pieces. 99% survived just fine.

Sounds like you did just fine.

It should grow out and smooth itself out fairly quickly.

Plus, if you can do some grow-out and trades, your cred at the LFS just grew immensely.

LOL...literally. I would have removed the rock if i could have, it started out attached to a small rock but encrusted it and moved onto everything in the area...aggressive little coral. I hope everything makes it my LFS really wants a piece of it, and i have some beauty's.

Yeah fragging montis is about as easy as it gets. You could just crumple it up and scatter the pieces. In a short time you would have a whole bunch of new colonies growing wherever the pieces landed.
