Fragging Pics

Hey guys... Since tonight's meeting was all about fragging, I thought I would share some pics of my frag station, and some of the ways I have mounted corals in the past.

Mounting w/ a combo of Super Glue & Epoxy

Frag on left was glued straight to the rock in the tank with super glue gel. The Birdsnest on the right was super glued to a piece of LR rubble, then the rubble was stuck to the rock inside the tank with 2-part epoxy (pictured above).

Another 2-Part Epoxy job... Since then I have pretty much moved away from Epoxy, and now use Super Glue Gel for most everything. Getting the hang of gluing underwater (put glue on frag outside tank, then mount inside tank) was a little tricky at first, but once I got the hang of it... I like it much better than the 2-part "wedge" that I used to use.

awesome. loved the meeting & learned a lot. I can't wait to get the tank setup to start myself! getting little by little...

For softies I've always found that it's very easy to thread a needle with nylon fishing line, and you just thread the coral right onto the fishing line, then tie it onto the frag plug. I've seen a lot of other methods, but for me personally, it seems to have been the most effective. I leave the line in for about 2 weeks, then just snip it and pull it out. This method works especially well for leathers of all types and large palys. I've done it to a zoanthid before, but usually they're just too small to string up on a fishing line. As stated at the workshop, mushies are just a nightmare and I will never try to actively propogate one I don't think.

Very nice TJ. Nice to meet a number of you yesterday - learned a lot and will in the future look forward to fragging some of my own stuff

Nice TJ, I love the glue on your thumb.
Haha... yeah I glued myself to frag plugs, tables, razors, towels, walls, the cat, etc... all the time when I was starting out.

awesome! you should post this on our pmas site too! :)
I'm not a member yet (waiting to see where I land a job first), but feel free to post it on there if you would like. I photo document just about everything I do, so I figured I'd dig them up and share them.

:)
