how thick is the chalice? hope it isn't thick.. dremel blades tend to heat up easily. you constantly have to dip the blade n the water to cool it down. i got my diamond wheel blades from some cheap harbor freight knock off shop out in south sac. they were like 5 or 6 bucks for 4 or 6 blades.

One is pretty thick

these are older pics they are now twice as thick and twice the size around I'm problly going to wait and get the Inland I have some Oxypora and Mycediums if I think I spelled that right ? that I wanna do so it would be better if I wait.

why not post a thread to see if anyone has a band saw that will frag for you. You end up giving them a frag for their help?

Just get a couple of diamond disks for your dremel. You can even find them at Lowes and Home Depot. When I was using the dremel, I'd make a quick first pass over the top of the chalice, cutting through the tissue and just into the skeleton, then make the rest of the cut from underneath, so as the blade heats up, it's not in contact with the tissue. For thinner chalices, don't worry about, just make the cut.

That's exactly what I just did with great success. Tile saw blades are way too thick for my taste.

i just fragged my cheeries jubilee chalcie with a rasor blade, worked great,no w for thicker chalices ill take over to tcf and us his band saw...?thats much easier...clean to...mike

You folks using tile saws are crazy!!! You lose half the colony with those thick blades. I use the Quick connect Diamond blade from Lowes. I just fragged a 12" around colony the other night. The band saw is 100x better but the dremel will work. Rather than dipping the dremel blade keep dipping the coral in water to cool it off and don't make long cuts that cause a lot of friction. I use the dremel to make a score line than snip it with bone cutters or finish the rest with a razor blade

I watched Brian P, then used a hybrid approach between what JT and Uderwaterparadise are describing on my Bazooka Joe mother. Turned out fine. The edges looked a little tore up for a few days, but it healed nicely.

Thanks for all the advice I think for now I will pick up a diamond blade for my dremel untill I can get an Inland.
I said I would never fall into the Chalice and Acan addiction so far I only fell into the Chalice addiction.
I have 2 colonies of Retired "LE Tyree blue chalice" not very big one's around 2" the other is around 2 1/2" pushing 3" so I will problly practice on one of those first befor cutting into Tyree rainbow oxypora or my silver light mycedium or any other of my better chalices.
I just wish my SPS did as well the funny thing is I set up a SPS tank and it's the chalices that do the best.
Now I just need to find a day I have time to sit down and do this.

I do have a friend who's cousin own's a jewlery store he said he can get me one wholesale over dinner one night when I met him I will have to ask my friend to get ahold of him
