Fragginng Encrusting Corals

I have some favids that are encrusting a very large live rock. I can't easily bring the rock out of the tank and was wondering whether it is possible to remove some of the favia and rock while its in place. Alternatively, can I just pull the favia off the rock and glue it to frag pieces? If the former is possible, what kind of tool could I use? Thanks for any advice.

I would take bone cutters and cut directly into the rock all the way around the coral and try to pop the entire colony off.

I haven't tried it but I doubt there's any way to peel a favia off a rock. I have fragged acans and the only way to frag them is to cut/break the rock. If you're brave you could try to break off chunks of rock by inserting a screwdriver into holes/cracks in the rock and try to pop chunks off. If successful you'll also need a knife to cut any attached tissue from the main colony.

Good Luck .....
