Fraging Xenias

Fragging xenia is really easy. You can cut it and rubberband it to a rock or lean a rock up against it and it will be attached in a day or so.

I should also note that dont put the rubberbands on too tight...

what do you mean by cut it? is there a spot not to cut or just one spot to cut? sorry i dont want to cut them in a place you cant or something also vertical cut or horizonal or doesnt matter?

I just cut it vertically like cutting a piece of the end and used a razor blade but none of it probably matters that stuff grows like a weed.

Just get a sharp pair of scissors and make a clean fast cut on the base of the Xenia. The left over stalk wil grow into a new stalk.
Place the xenia on a piece of rubble rock, I like to use fish neting or veil, place that over the xenia loosly and rubber band the netting down to the rock.
Place the xenia frag in low flow and it will start to attach in a few days.
To frag even mor off of a stalk, just cut sections out of the top of the crown, like giving it a hair cut and just do the same to do those as the other frags.

Yeah it almost doesnt matter where you cut it... from the base... from an arm. I fragged some of my xenia a while back and accidentally cut some of the arms off... I didnt think much of it at the time but those things floated around for a while... stopped and attached to rock and have now become larger pieces!

how fast does a newly grafted xenia grow? And do you cut it in the water or remove it out and then cut it. It is because i was curious if they release any juices while grafting....

You can cut them in or out of the water, I usually cut them in the tank as the smell outside of it is horrible, unless you have to take the coral out to cut where you want.

A freshly cut frag under proper conditions will start to heal and grow immediatly. Yes they will release some mucus, but not much.

You can also just stack some rubble rock or what ever you were planning on attaching the frags to around the base of the mother colony. It will attach itself in a few days.

just curious but if i cut off one of the little arms and get it sticking to a rock it will grow into its own colony?

how long would it take to heal and grow some more arms?
