How do I fragment a mushroom?

Can I put a mushroom In a tank with .1mg/L (ammonia, nitrates, nitrites each)?

There's some great info in a few of these forums stickied with propogation techniuques - however with my new found experience if the mush is on a rock near other mushes and you want to get only some, take a flathead screw driver and a hammer (or a chisel if you have one i guess) and slightly tap under the mush so you get al ittle bit of rock off wit hit. Surprisingly LR isn't as hard to pound through as you may think!

I wouldn't put *anything* in a tank that had ammonia or nitrites or high nitrates. the first two should be 0 across the board and the last <10ppm.

Hth!

I'd definitely wait till you have 0's as Chrissie says. I've fragged shrooms in the same way as stated above. Make sure you get a little rock with the shroom so you can superglue it to your new rubble.

Fragging does not mean separating one out of group, it means dividing a coral so that you get 2 or more from one. There has been a lot written about fragging and should be easy to find. Or you can just wait and let it split on its own.

fragging is not that hard..like on a fla ric, get a sharp razor blade an cut in half..if you get a piece of the mouth it will heal quicker an have a higher survial rate..i only cut mine in halves..

I will agree that mushrooms and FL ricordias seem to take a good beating and the pieces will usually attatch themselves and grow.
I wonder about yumas, if they are as tough.

I guess if you want fraggin in a true sense of the word there you have it.. but im too chicken to do it.. unless I get something I know I can afford to take the risk on.. I'll go au naturale =\

Good luck with yours and show us pics if you can of your progress!

i started fraggin on a greenstriped mushroon..or a red or a blue..
you do it the same way...cut in half...an yumas are tough {BUT}
they grow MUCH slower..i found out the hard way about breaking up a yuma rock with many yumas on it , it stressed them out to much an they ALL died..so now the way i get my yumas off a rock like one i wanna frag i put it in a high flow an let iy detach its self..
thats the safest way i have found..

cut the stalk(trunk) and then cut as many pieces as you want.
leave in low flow on some sand in a few days they will attach to the sand and then you can glue the sand to rubble rock with super glue gel.

another option is to put it in the blender with a littls salt water, pulse a few times and pour back in to tank. you will have 20/30 small shrooms in a month or two.

as always with fraging ......remember to run carbon 24/7 for a few days to remove any toxic slime the corals release when cut and wear rubber gloves good luck.....al
