Question for you prop experts.

I have an LPS coming in soon that I want to frag into 2 pieces. The LPS in question is an acan lord in case that makes a difference.

Should I:

a) let the LPS recover from shipping stress in my main tank for 'n' number of days before fragging it or,

b) frag as soon as I get it then let frags recover in main tank.

Either way the corals would be treated with iodine, etc prior to being added to the main tank in a shielded area from the halides until they recover, etc.

I don't even have any LPS frag, but I'm sure the answer would be to let them get over their stress from shipping prior to fraggin' them.

You will want to minimize as much stress on any new coral as possible. Shipping, changing water parameters, lighting, etc. - all contribute to a corals' stress level. So my general advice is to minimize those changes and not do anything that would make the situation worse by fragging.

That being said, if your new tank addition does not look healthy and/or is showing signs of tissue loss or infection in an area - cut away anything that looks healthy ASAP to avoid a complete loss should that damaged area spread. This mostly applies to SPS type stuff, but in case its bacteria or some other ailment that can spread, I like to treat my LPS the same.

And above all - post pictures! I love acans!

shouldnt be an issue fragging it right away unless it was poorly shipped...it's an lps. you can dribble around an acan or play frisbee with a chalice, and itll be fine.

Acans are one of the easiest recovering corals from fragging I have come across.

I try to wait 72 hours before I even think about chopping. SPS and chalices are a little different story.
