No problem I didnt realize if I pay to come to NERAC it would be a problem to sell corals which we do every year. Anything I sell will go back into into the vendors to buy corals. I already preordered corals from a couple of the vendors.

Vinny I think the vendors know people trade and sell their corals at these events. Most people sell their corals to have money to spend on the vendors so I think vendors are fine with it

Don't be so sure. If I paid to be a vendor and had a frag for $40 and someone came in and sold a frag of the same coral for $15 right there I'd be a little ticked off. Especially if they said, "well I'm going to spend this $15 with you"

Well then maybe the vendor should lower their prices if the normal prices from one hobbyist to another is 15 bucks. Every swap I've vet been to we swap and sell amongst each other and never saw a post from a vendor or heard a vendor say it hurts them. They all know we do it.

Maybe the issue is this isn't a swap, its a conference

So if it's just a conference there shouldn't be a issue then. And yes I just have a tank but I could use the funds to add more corals. Their finances are not more important then mine. But out of respect for Vinny since he asked it's fine but seriously it's shouldn't be a issue. Again vendors know we all do this at conferences or swaps. It's not their first rodeo

i've opted out of trying to make a living off growing corals out of my basement because it seems far-fetched. i would not sympathize for someone who can not feed their kids because their "insert reefers RC name" acropora doesn't bring in $50 an inch.

you want to know what a poor business model is? holding your ground on a price that was overpriced to begin with and not competing with your competitors. if its bigger and better- then by all means, charge what you feel is accurate. not stepping down from a price when the exact same thing is selling for less would be an absolutely horrible business decision. you may not want to turn the profit you had in mind- but its better than letting the thing go necrotic at some point and losing your investment all together.

i'll hold off on transactions with other members at the "conference" as per vinny's request.

Guys all Vinnie is saying I belive is to do it outside and not in the confrence area where the vendors are,I know that at the Mannhattan reef swap guys do it in the same room as the vendors. We have hard enough time getting the vendors so we dont want to Pi_ _ them off.

The vendors have to pay to sell at Nerac we don't so if we want more vendors next year we shouldn't be selling what the vendors are trying to sell. Time and a place...

May be we would get more vendors if this was a rule? We can always trade, sell... at the meetings.

JustMy2 cents

Walter you make it seem like its my fault that they didn't have enough vendors for you. I end up selling $40 worth of corals and spent a few hundred on the vendors. Some of those vendors are the same ones at MR swaps and trading goes on in front of them. Do you want call it the Sal rule? Lol Whatever I sell at the meetings I also try to donate a much I can to the auctions for the club. Vinny made his point and I got it. Anyways I had fun and looking foward to it next year.
