frags for sale

Ryan,

How is everything? Where'd your alk test?

Still have everything but the frogspawn and german blue (haven't really sold a whole lot...). I'm packing the tanks up Tuesday (plan right now, anyway) for a Wed-Fri move (in town moves are so simple and easy, but out of town moves suck).

I need to test the ALK again. I was pretty mad at the red sea test kit I bought yesterday. Its a little misrepresented with the pictures on the box and I'm not certain what scale its using. I'll post more about it here in a couple of hours when I test again so you can gimme some tips :).

I split the chips apart and have one up higher and one down lower with the bonsai.

I've asked Chris, but would like your opinion as well. How do you tell when a sps needs to be moved up or down in a tank? These are only my 2nd and 3rd sps I have in my tank.... so I'm definitely not experienced.

Again... I'll post more about the alk here in a few hours.

For finding the right spot, I usually leave them somewhere and observe. If they start to lose color or PE, I might move them a little in one direction or another for a little while to see how they react. Info on certain named corals (like the bonsai) can be gotten from polling people. Different thigns work different ways for different people, so by comparing systems and responses, you can build an idea for whther it should go up or down int he tank, etc.

Alk is likely the most important level to keep constant (keeping it constant can help keep ca constant). Corals can live through low calcium for a lot longer than they can low or super high alk/dKH...

I've been using Kent Marine Superbuffer-dKH about every other day to get my PH a little higher for the past week. It will be interesting to see what my test results are tonight.

Gary,

Well... I think with all the buffering I've done I may have finally got it right.

PH ~8.1 right now
ALK is reading on the high side of this red sea test somewhere between 3.1 and 3.6 "milli equaivalents per liter"... what ever that means. Can you or anyone help clue me in here?

Anyway, I definitely know the PH is more in line and the ALK has to be higher than it was as well.

Thanks Dave!

I guess I should google! :P

Also...

1 mEq/L = 2.8 dKh = 50.04 ppm CaCO3
1dKh = 17.9 ppm CaCO3
1 mEq/L = 50.04 ppm CaCO3

So yes... its about 10dKh.

Thanks again. :)

Other findings and ALK tests I just did....

RO/DI water of Consolidated utility district in Rutherford County = ~0mEq/L <---NOT READABLE!!!! :(

Using the same water with a mixture of Oceanic Salt to 1.026 sg = ~1.7mEq/L or 4.76dKh :(

This is not good.... I think I'll start another thread with this information so its not lost. No wonder I've had to buffer the heck out of it to get it up the past week!

Just one more day to get your phatty dank phrags:D (sorry relapsed to too many years ago when at Phish shows, even the paper plate on the ground was phatty dank:Dlol). The tanks are coming down tomorrow... I will be sacrificing a cow to the gods tonight for safe passage;). (once again-slipping-have read the iliad and the Oddysey twice in the last 6 months...).

I'll be needing some help tonight at some point. I want to break down the tanks and load the stands and tanks in the back of the Uhaul (figured tonight would be better than trying to do it tomorrow for availability). I'm just not sure what time yet. I want to make it easy for everyone by having it all ready to just move onto the truck and be done, but not sure when to say...

Gary, You have my number (I think). If you need me, give me a ring. I will call you this evening when I get free to see how far along you are and if your going to need help.

Just got finished loading the bulk of the items non tank related. I am about to start breaking down tanks. If anyone wants to come by around 7:30 or 8:00, I hope to be to a point that we can jsut move the tanks and stands into the UHaul (may be wishful thinking...-I'm walking death right now. I've been loading since early this morning with only a break to eat some chocolate for lunch and a few glasses of tea;). I hope I'm not in a wheel chair for my first day Monday... My cell is 6421556. Any and all help will be appreciated:).

I really do hope everything goes as good as it possibly can. I wish I could take a few days off from work to help! It would be like a vacation. :)

Instead I'll be going to MS to help out with my Granny (she has a broken leg). My Pop (Grandfather) is having a triple bypass open heart surgery this Friday. =\ I'm pretty worried about that.
