Frags? New to corals and the forum..

Hey folks! I’m fairly new here â€"œ well new to posting that is. I’ve read the forums for some time. I have an established (bout three year) FOWLR tank and I’m ready to begin keeping corals.

Softies are pretty interesting. Does anyone want to sell or give some frags to a new home? I’m really interested in frogspawn, brightly colored ricordias, xenia (prefer pom pom since it doesn’t spread so readily). Really, I'm interested in anything that is fairly community safe and doesn’t require MH lighting.

Tank specs are RR 75G, 300WPC lighting (50/50 03-10k), 30G sump, euroreef skimmer. Current inhabitants are 1 tomato clown, 1 midas blenny and a cleaning crew. I had a few damsels that caused too much trouble, so I traded them in at the lfs. Pretty empty huh?

If anyone is interested, I’ll post some pics of my setup once I get off today.

Thanks in advance! Happy Turkey Day!!!!

I'd advise you specialize either in softies OR in lps: they don't play well together. The softies exude a chemical to prevent growth near them, and this afflicts the stony corals more than it affects other softies. Stonies like lps have sweeper tentacles they put out at night to hunt, and this can sting the neighbors. A stung softy exudes chemicals, etc, and an offended sps puts out more tentacles. It's a flywheel effect.

Thanks Sk8r, great info! In reference to my lighting (300w PC), I doubt with my current setup I could keep LPS. At least thats what I gather from poking around on the web. Would I be correct?

I've grown LPS corals easily under power compact lighting. I have had many heads split off of my grape corals (similar to frogspawn). Other things I have had success with are torches, hammers, brains, frogspawn, donuts, bubbles, and trumpets.
