Frame for lights

I've got to redo my canopy for a new MH reflector. I'm thinking of making a frame out of aluminum to mount the new reflector and other lights. Has anyone built something similar? Just looking for ideas.

Yes I have. It wasn't for MH's in a hood - it was to make a frame to hang VHO's. It was extremely easy and easy on the pocket book as well. I used the metal framing that is normally used to make screen enclosures. Available at your local Dummy Depot.

i built the frame for the canopy on my 125g out of 2x2 aluminum thats normally used for a screen enclosure than skinned it with plywood.... i only used it cause i had the metal laying around but why do you wanna use it? are you planning on skinning it?

I thought it would be easiest and allow me the most room for what I wanted. And allow me room to mount everything I wanted to install. I was going to use the aluminum stock. Not the thick screening frames. Lol

i made the frame for my new canopy with 1x2 than skinned it with 1/4" oak ply.... not sure what aluminum stock is or how much it cost

That EZ Tubing stuff looks sweet. Bet it costs an arm and leg though.

There is another version of it I found on ebay and its alot cheaper :) I still think I will go with aluminum angle stock from HD or Lowes and rivet or screw together.

If I had a larger tank i'd probably go with the EZtube or equivalent.

I have access to some of the aluminum already. I could build it with rivets/screws, drill and a hacksaw versus relying on uneven HD cuts or bringing a table saw here and still having uneven cuts. My canopy is always open, so skinning it would not be a priority. I also want to set it up so I can easily slide a screen on for lights and to keep future fish from jumping.
