Freaking spiders

I've had this one colony that has started going down hill for a week or so. I just dosed the tank with melafix so thouhgt that was the irritation. I noticed one particular polyp that was half open but shriveled on the sides. Grabbed my magnifying glass and saw a spider latched on the stem of the polyp. I made up 1 quart rodi water with about 8 to 10 drops of lugols. Dipped the colony and had to manually removed the spider after about 10 mins of soaking. Gave it a good look over and put it back in the display. Dipped all my other colonies just to be safe. All I killed was one spider, and load of pods.Last night found/killed another adult spider down in a crevice under a polyp in the same colony.

Are they just tough or do I need to do something else?

They were zoanthid spiders.

Never heard or seen one. One more thing I have to look out for.

Nasty little buggers to be sure... You definately don't want them in your tank... Do a search and you'll find some pics... Theres also a pic of them in zoa-id.com under predators...

Stanton~ From what I have read, if you find one, likely you will find more... Unless you just added that colony of zoas??? I'd definately remain vigilant... Good luck!!!

Same thing just happened to my zoos. They were all closing but I noticed something sticking out of the top of one.

I got a clear mixing bowl and filled it with RO/DI water. Pulled out the colony and shook it upsidedown in the freshwater for about 10 seconds. Two of the little brown bstds fell out of the zoos. I ended up pulling out 13 other small frags and colonies and doing the same. They seem to drop right off in freshwater.

Time will tell if this helps.

yeah i pulled two of the other day...all i could see on a new arrival...i hope that is all there was...both were aout 4-5 mm long/big...and holy damn they are ugly..

i remember looking at them on ZoaID, and saying wow i hope i never get any of those...and then sure enough..
