free 1000w mh setup

so as the title says...its free, would like some frags...but if not its cool...It was in one of my rentals...think it was used for growing weed....its complete and ready to go. ballest, bulb, reflector, and wiring

thanks for the setup. you're right, its definitely a 600W high pressure sodium lamp and ballast, not a 1000W MH setup.

i looked for info on the web. i couldn't get any technical info on the ballast from the manufacturer, PL Light Systems. I'm going to crack the case to see if I can find an ANSI number inside.

i looked up the Philips SON-T bulb. its a 600 watt 2000 K (yellow) bulb for use in horticulture. its a very bright yellow light, and from what i've read they're used in greenhouses to supplement blue lighting that is obtained from skylights. it looks like these lamps are supposed to be used to supplement natural sunlight instead of being a replacement for it. i think you're right -- its definitely a high power hydroponics setup, and somebody was probably using it to grow herb.

AFAIK you can't use any type of MH bulb with the ballast but i have to do some more looking to be sure. in the interim i've got a 175W MH ballast and lamp that i can use with the reflector.
