FREE Fish--Leopard Blenny

This is one of the coolest fish I've ever seen:

He needs to be living in a HUGE tank with SPS corals, as all he eats are SPS polyps. Now before you go thinking that's crazy, he lived in a 300g tank w/very few SPS & the keeper never noticed any harm to his corals.
The poor fella's starving to death in my tank. :(

Believe me, if there was any way I could get him to eat something else, I'd love to keep him. I talked to Bob Fenner & he said there was nothing I could do. I was just at someone's house that had a filefish that was supposed to just eat SPS & it was eating flakes.

He was dumped into a friend's tank by a fellow that had a 300g. It lived in the 300 for over a year. According to Mr Fenner, it may have been starving or eating very little that whole time. I thought it looked healthy to me but he pointed out it looked a bit concave in the middle--I was just looking at the thickness of the fish. Now it's getting even thinner. :( If you want to try him, you're welcome to him. He's a gorgeous, funny fish.

Can you dump any frags in there for him? Would that work? Adding a M. Digi or something that grows pretty quickly?

Have you tried live brine or mysid?

2 96 wt PCs over a 25" tall tank (only 50g). There is no way that tank could support the amount of coral needed to feed this 4" fish. It needs a huge (300+) tank. If I had known, I never would have taken this poor fish.

Poor thing. You might try some live brine in the meantime?

Good luck finding him a home!

I can't see how a fish that size could eat off SPS colonies without knocking them over.

I had one of these for 48 hrs... the LFS told me it was an algae eater. That was the last time I have taken any body's advice before doing my own research! He decimated 3 different acropora colonies but had no interest in my M. digitatas. I returned him to the store pretty steamed. They sold him to some lady who didn't like the sps in her tank (crazy right?). Anyway, she comes to the LFS about once a month or so and buys him an acropora to eat! Mine ate live brine at the LFS and seemed to suck algae off the rocks a bit when I first added him to my tank, but it was about 10min before he found my acros. He was super cool, but I was no sad to see him go after all he destroyed! Best of luck to whoever tries to keep him :)

i am interested, but do you think there is a chance of survival? I would hate to watch the little guy lose the battle. I have lights that could support sps, so maybe i can get a sps weed frag from someone. let me know. thanks jenny
