Hi, I just took down my 4 year old 20 gallon reef tank, and downsized it to a smaller one. I have 4 or 5 piece of live rock left. These rocks were used under my main rocks, but there are a few small corals on some- A small Kenya Tree coral, toadstool Mushroom leather coral, a small amount of mushrooms, red & green. Two of the rocks are totally barren, because they were in my fuge. Two rocks have 2 clams- one a centimeter and one 2 inches?? They are the ugly kind that look like mussels) nothing pretty. (The rocks came from Live Rock & Reef in Florida.)
A Hitch Hiker crab came aboard with one of the rocks. I believe he is a common rock crab, because he is a bit evil. He killed tons of snails, hermit crabs, and even my pink pseudochromi (dottyback) fish. I tried to catch him & kill him for 3 years. I would find graveyards and caves of snail shells behind my main rocks. He would run around at night and snatch rocks and shells from every corner and make caves out of them. It was so funny! My kids loved him. I didn't love him too much though and was afraid he would eat my clownfish. I want to give him away before that happens.... Well I finally caught him in a crab trap, and I don't have the heart to kill him now!!! How crazy is that!
In fact, if you are going to kill him, please don't take him. I will keep him until I find him a home. It is my duty, since he survived my boiling hot water turkey baster injections into his hole in the rock ! If anything survives that- they deserve to live 'til eternity!!! LOL
I would like to give the rock away asap, so nothing dies. Right now they are in my garage with no light, with a pump circulating the water around them. Please email me at bfrisbee2@hotmail.com . Don't use this forum to contact me, as I won't check it. This is the first time I have logged on in 3 years probably. I am too busy.
The rocks have probably a few snails on them, and they are loaded with other life...bristleworms, stringy worms ( i forgot their scientific name.) I bought the worms and starfish (which might be on the rocks) from a place in Hawaii online. I also had things from Garf ( the Garf Grunge from Idaho I believe.)
All those things are great, because when my fish pooped the creatures in the rock devoured it up. Gross! I have never had a trace of amonia or nitrates in my tank.
I did however get flatworms from a reefer at the Roundtable meeting, when he gave me some zoos. That was the first and last time I went there and did that!
So if you get these rocks, give them a dip treatment of Salifert Exit or whatever you choose. ---I haven't seen any flatworms in about 6 months. They just disappeared, which was weird. I never even treated my tank. So I imagine there might be a few somewhere???
I live in Fair Oaks. Contact me and I will give you my address. There is even a website for my house, since I am selling it. So you will know where you are going... thanks!
Well I have written this over a span of 10 interruptions and an hour, so sorry if it sounds choppy.
Once, again- bfrisbee2@hotmail.com
