Freediving broward/miami reefs

Over spring break i purchased a 12ft rubber fishing boat, dive bouys and other equipment for going to the inner reef without having to swim from shore. along with the inverter i can put out from just about anywhere along the coast, but i havnt been boating alot in the area yet, so can anyone give me tips on places to go within paddling distance of shore? Thats with 2 people rowing. And in less than 35ft of water, any deeper is just impractical for me......

I haven't heard of it either.

Hey illal, I'm off today so I could meet you sometime today and give you the chaeto you wanted.

POMPANO BEACH!!! the pompano beach diving ledges are awesome. they are between the commercial and atlantic peir, but closer to commercial, they are within a mile of shore, and there is three levels of the reef, the deepes part is 25-30 on top and 40-45 at the bottom of the ledge, thats the very outside dropoff though, inner parts of the reef are sometimes 14 ft!

datura is commercial and a1a.... the reef is about 300 yards long and about 100 yards off shore.... its on the south side of the pier ...... i usually just swim out and snorkel..its about 18 feet to the sand and 12 feet to the top of the reef.... if you swim out 3/4 of the way to the end of the pier is where it starts.... the morning is suposivly the clearest time ;) heres a website : http://www.fillexpress.com/library/datura.shtml

btw loyalrogue im off too but i wont have a ride out that way till 5 or 6 but id defintly like to meet up today

That would be cool going out there. I guess I should quit smoking. Free diving is cool. Did anyone see that guy from cuba free dive some crazy depth? It was on the discovery channel about 4 months ago. They also had some chick free dive with seals. That was cool! Oh yeah, her name is Tanya Streeter.

yeah i cant wait till friday, i have off so i think ill go then, Bass pro shop rules, next door in the divers direct shop they have a brownie's third lung, anyone seen these before, its a air compressor on a float with a sort of hookah air tube for up to 4 people, the unit allows up to 4 people to go as deep as 90ft for up to 3 hours on 1 gl of gas. its supposed to be comparable in cost to dive gear for like 5 people. sounds like an awesome system.

Before I was certified I was free diving/snorkling the keys/reefs. Miami Beach believe it or not has alot of sites offshore-relatively shallow except visibility is very hit or miss (usually miss) check this site out.
www.divespots.com
Shows all the spots (there are many more unlisted) in different areas.

PS: Becareful with the third lung, not being certified you do not know about decompression limits and so on, just because its not "scuba" does not mean its any safer. (btw 90ft D/C limit is only like 20 or 25 mins).

yeah that info is off the brochure, honestly i dont need that much gear nor can i afford the roughly 4,000 cost so im sticking with my freediving and snorkeling for now.

Darn it, why couldnt there be any places like this a bit farther to the north!! The 5 hour drive is a little much :(
