anyone had keep this beautiful butterfly before? is it a good shipper? does it have a good record in captive? and usually how much do they go for?

thanks in advance!

I've collected and kept it, it does ok, but it doesn't really like captivity. Almost all of them assume the freight pattern and never get the pretty yellow color back, no matter how long and how well they seem to adapt. The pattern is like the night pattern, the yellow fades and the body has sort of a sooty color over the faded yellow and the blue stripes lighten up. I kept the one I had for almost 3 years and it never colored up fully in that time. Other then color it was a great fieh, active and peaceful, never bothering any other tankmates. I fed it a mix of frozen and pellets as well as fresh scallops and when the sargassum comes in I collect the small shrimp and feed all my fish them live.

I have a small one, maybe 2.5 inches, it would only eat frozen brine the first 4 months, then it realized that the other fish were eating flakes and its been good eater ever since. Have had it since July 2007.

will wait for your answer..

best will be a pic attached..

but such a pity, most of the lfs here in singapore cant seem to get them from the suppliers. althought i heard they are plenty in hk

A pic, that means I will have to read the insturctions for the digial camera! You don't see too may because they are not reef safe.

not reefsafe is one thing, but not even in the supplier list is something werid. as in singapore, usually we can get most of the fishes...

sigh, guess i will try harder then.
so far only heard of one lfs bringing in them once..

even the clarion which dont have much demend in singapore have a few landed here... going for price like 2.5k usd if you know the boss well

It's not for lack of supply - they are abundant in the wild. I usually pass them up for other fish because the demand's not that great.
