French Angel eye problem???

Hi all.

aboit 3 or s9 weeks back my French angel developed what started to look like pop eye in it's left eye.

I believe it possibly occurred whilst netting and moving him as it showed up the very next morning quite enlarged.

since then the eye has bulges out quite substantially and 8a looking like something is eventually going to give.

it looks as if behind the eye ball it is filled with a large amount of air as it looks like it is blown up like a balloon you can see the blood vessels/nerve attaching the eye yo the body of the fish in this air filled cavity and I am worried if it inflates to much more the eye might drop off.

currently does not seem to be stressing the fish he can still move the eye around, the eye is perfectly clear, all water chemistry has been good and stable for quite a while now.
I have tried Epsom salts, antibiotics, and put melafix in to help any possible abrasions on the eye.

so far nothing has worked and slowly it is getting bigger. roughly bulging out to 2cm now so o am getting fairly worried.

everything I read says to leave it and trauma should clear itself up?
Any ideas should maybe I look at draining the air?

thanks

3 weeks is not concerning, but 9 weeks is.

I have seen post of people using 3 treatments (kanaplex+metroplex+furan-2). Not sure how it is used. I have used Furan 2 with mixed results.

I think they did each treatment 30 minutes apart but I would do a search for the procedure.

If the eye is clear more than likely it's not infected. I'm guessing it is an injury because pop eye that's bacterial will usually affect both eyes and they will be cloudy. You tried Epsom salt and that is what I would suggest dose it at 1-3 tbls per 5 gallons Disolve it first in some tank water then add to a hi flow area this can be repeated in 48 hrs
There is also a ailment to eyes that is a gas bubble I'm not sure the cause but I believe it will correct itself

thanks for the posts.

yes I agree it is most likely due to injury and not 'pop eye'

I also agree with the time frame which usually should not being too concerning and it should correct itself. however I am worried because it is getting bigger daily and if looking from behind the fish into this air filled cavity you can see all the vessels to the eye pulling quite tight and looks like they may eventually break off.

the fish is eating perfectly normal and seems to be using the eye okay.

I done a little research on gas bubbles in the eye, due to several posts this last couple weeks on eye problems. Seems the main reason for gas bubbles in the eye is over saturation of dissolved gas in the tank water generally with this problem not only can it affect the eyes but gas pockets can for under the skin as well and usually you will see a problem with the fish swimming or its buoyancy due dissolved gas in the swim bladder.

This sounds disturbing . I had purchased two juvenile potters angels that were eating at fish store. Put them in 40gal breeder with lots of holey rock. They were eating and doing ok . One had submitted and eventually they formed a pair . Both swimming and eating together. At about the 4 wk mark in Qt both overnight developed unusual posturing .next day one died and the other developed an enlarged eye . Used furan 2 but no effect . Eventually the eye burst after 2nd day treatment . Went back to fish store and saw several other fish with Popeyes . This sounds like it can spread and maybe parasitic in nature .
