Fresh air intake.

I'm wanting to set up a fresh air intake for my skimmer I'm currently just running a couple hoses to a window but I want to be able to close the window. I have 2" and 1.5" pvc and was gonna run one or the other outside through the wall my only problem is they spray for mosquitoes in my area how would I go about filtering that out? I was thinking of making basicly a p trap inside the house that early slides apart and filling it with carbon. Do you guys think that will work?

That has always been what's holding me back from routing my skimmer intake to the outside, who knows what my HOAs lawn guys are spraying, or like you said mosquito control, also if the neighbor (close) has an exterminator treat the outside of their house. This always steered me towards a soda lime CO2 scrubber instead Will be following for sure to see what others say

i think ive read about people using some sort of carbon to filter the air as its sucked into the hosing. This would be yet another thing that needs replacing every now and then though.

Yeah that's not a big deal I'd just get the cheapest bulk carbon possible. And change it once a month or so.

I agree. Carbon is used to scrub toxins out of the air. I would seriously consider some type of air filter to remove as much dust, pollen and air particulates as possible also. I feel a product coming on. Maybe a 3D printed air filter box that has removable filters and inlet and outlet fittings for just this case.

I think you might have one sold lol. As far as a filer element they do make activated carbon filters but all I have found them for are 4" applications like fresh air intake for greenhouse or hydroponics setups. 2" is all the bigger I'd really want to go. I'll see if I can find anything else that would work.

McMaster Carr has carbon filter material in sheet form that you can buy and cut to fit if you that would work better for you.

I've thought about something like that but don't know how good they would be for filtering out the chemicals

If you really want to make sure no chemicals get through maybe you could find a way to retrofit a respiratory filter onto the end of your fresh air tube. It would act as a dust filter, chemical fiter, and keep bugs out.

Awesome Idea! Might make a trip to Lowes and pick one up and pull it apart.

Now that might just work.

build it and they (me) will buy.

I've been thinking about a fresh air intake again since my pH has really dropped with the a/c on. I had considered rigging up an old TLF reactor (filled with carbon) between the skimmer and the hard pvc going outside. I don't have a lot of chemicals, etc. that I would need to deal with (I live in the country) but would like some protection.

I'm willing to try the soda lime approach. My house is new construction and is very tight, but I'm concerned as well with outside contaminates.

Just want to find it locally. Might try airgas to see if they have it.

well i did a simple build on this using 2" pvc i put a p trap in the pipe and a t and a 90 i reduced the 2" t and 90 to 3/4" and got a couple 1/2" hose barbs filled the trap with carbon. so far so good with a ph above 8.05 constantly for the last 48 hours.

Got a pic for reference?
