Fresh Water Dips??

I think I see my first outbreak of ick and I would love to try treatment with a fresh water dip. Should this water be completely fresh...no salt at all? How do I treat the fish? Do I acclimate it to the fresh water or do I just place her in there to shock the parasite? All help is appreciated.

Freshwater dips do little to nothing to remove the ich. Quarantine it and perform hypo or copper treatment along with all other fish that was in the tank with it to truely kill off all ich.

How hypo should the tank be? 1.009 or higher, lower and for how long? I really appreciate your help. The fish I have to treat is a Percula Clown. I really do not wnt to use copper unless you think that is more effective and safer for the fish in the long run.

SG should be 1.009 Treat all fish for no less than 4-6 weeks AFTER the last spot of ich is noticed ON the fish.

I have two heniochus diphreutes I put in QT on the 21st. I just noticed a few spots of ich on one of the fish's tails, which is normally how long it takes for it to show up. I have had them at 1.009 since Sunday so after I see the last spot of ich the timer will start on the 4-6 weeks in hypo.

ok i might be wrong but this has helped for me but not all the time i preform a fresh water dip i use metholyn blue and it actualy works not all the timebut it does help its alot more stressfull on you than it is on the fish but always qt better to lose one fish than an entire live stock good luck

Freshwater dips can dislodge some of the parasites on the fish but if you return the fish back to the display tank, it will become reinfected with the parasite.

Taking up on Puffer Qeens "reinfect" comment - its important to note that once you have placed an ich infected fish into the show tank tank your now faced with the difficult task of removing ich from that tank. Since the show tank often has "stuff" in the tank that can't tolerate ich effective meds your often faced with letting that tank "cure itself" by removing all fish for 5 weeks or so.
