Freshwater Crabs? AKA the funniest thing that happened at PETSMART

where are you? i'm talking about southern california!

and the tanks aren't THAT bad, i'm saying some of the employees can be really stupid

i guess Fuegan really hits the nail on the head with his post!

Im in Los Angeles.
The couple of petcos and the one petsmart ive been in around here were very poor.

Im glad to know there are places they actually do make an effort.

im in NE ohio, i guess they kinda have to keep their animals in tip top shape because they are the only other saltwater LFS besides one other one, the employees at mine are really knowledgable but the thing is that they wont even let me buy snails if i say they are for another tank now...now i have nothing to feed because the crappy LFS sells snails for 12.00 for 3 tiny turbo snails, petco wont sell me snails or fish, and my petsmart doesnt sell ghost shrimp, the only thing i can think of doing is just order a crap load of snails through the internet and keeping half in my fuge and half in monte's tank, i bought a bag of frozen kill but i have a feeling that if i keep feeding her those she could loose her smashers the next molt

well looks like im going to start my 10G and its going to be a snail forest because i just had to be $17 for three mexican turbos, also does anyone have a gorilla crab they are willing to get rid of, monte is in the mood for a fight, she is really ****ed off at me and needs to take her aggression out on something

A petsmart employee once refused to sell me ghost shrimp (feeder animals!) bc i was going to feed them to my mantis.

First off, I worked for Petsmart for almost 5 years. second when they got a shipment of ghost shrimp in it would be around 100 or 150 the reason we would get a 100 in was to sell as FOOD! It just might differ with management. Petsmart does hire idiots that know nothing about fish or are very biased and want you to set up your tank like theirs. I don't think any petsmart stores have any saltwater setups because they cannot even get the idiots that work there now to take care of the freshwater setup.

I hated working there and it would make PETA, OSHA, and the EPA cringe if they actually knew some of the things I have witnessed. like animal neglect, dumping of chemicals, chemicals in bottles with no labels. For example mymost memerable experience is as I like to call it "the Hamster Holocaust". They have a special room called the "Quite Room" mainly because the Death room would be an accurate discription, every thing that went in dies, it was called the treatment room. I was closing one night and had not performed the closing precedures in that room for about 2 weeks because I worked with someone else opening or closing and they did it. Well I opened the door of a small 80 degree 10' X 10' room, as I did this a huge nasty stench hit me head on...you know the smell of death. Well i'm looking for hamsters that had passed away and couldn't find a single one. But one aqarium was empty but had hamster poo and food in it. So i decided to change the bedding because it looked used and there was a lot in there. I get out the dust pand and take a big scoop of bedding and too my suprise I uncover 20 or so bodies that are now a black and furry goo.:eek2: . I gagged and almost couldn't finish but I knew that this is why I was being paid 7 dollars an hour for. I'm sure someone else would do it. I complained to a manager and nothing happened about it. People had to initial a sheet saying they cleaned this room on certain days so its not hard to see how did not do their job. all they were doing was putting new bedding on top.

Anyway what I wanted to really say is I tried my best to make people believe in our store and all it did was get me promoted to a postion that would later be taken away from me because corporate decided that they no longer needed a receiving manager and that a manger should do it. does that make sense? Then I did the same job but had a stupid amazon women who use to have a mullet tell me what to do every day like I was a new employee or something. She was on a power trip i guess. They would smoke in the building too and that made me so mad. even when they were open.

that happened 3 years ago. They keep that room locked and only managers have a key to it now. Well thats how it was when I quit. I thought about taking pictures and sending them in but they would know it would be an employee, of course. It was like I was in highschool and the managers were seniors and if the managers didn't talk to you or you didn't go to their house and drink with them you were like not cool. Everyone gossiped about each other.

Another funny incident was when the homeless cats had ringworm and a bunch of employees got it along with the people at homeless shelter. It was a huge outbreak. I'm happy I never played with the cats too much...well I was too busy working.
