Freshwater dip.

After I do a freshwater dip am I supposed to acclimate back to the main tank? All the information I can find only tells me to adjust the FW to like temp. and PH. And leave for about 15 min. or so.

Ouch...hate to hear that. I have never dipped a clam but I believe it's best to just place them back in the tank straight out of the dip. That's what I do with fish when I have dipped.

R.I.P.. I had the little fellow for a little over 6 months. I am baffled at why he passed. Everything I can find about PM says that there is no apparent reason. I am almost ashamed as an enthusiast to have something pass. This is my first loss. All my params. are normal. PH 8.3, ALK 3.4, Amm. 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 5, Cal 420. Temp. has been varying some the last week. It has been staying between 78 and 82. I normally have no problems with this.

If that's your first loss your doing great. All of us lose things and most lose more than that. Have you checked the shell for small holes? It could have been pyramidellid snails... thats the only obvious thing I can think of. It's not uncommon for clams to die after 2 or 3 months but when they make it past that point they are usually in good shape IME. Sorry to hear.

PS: How big was he?

He was 4 7/16 inches from tip to tip. He did have a hole but I believe that it was from a dislodged bysall gland. I found no evidence of pyramidellids. Though I cannot say that they weren't there.
