Introduction:
I started this hobby over 15 years ago with a 55 gallon tank and slowly acquired more tanks around my house starting with a nano then a frag tank until i finally moved to a 120 AGA RR tank about 2 years ago. It was well over do as my 55 was splitting at the seems with all my corals. Once i gathered all the equipment erection of the tank went up quickly and soon i noticed the tank was really empty lol. So i started gathering more corals In all my years i have noticed that reefers are in a hurry to fill there tanks that they end up buying junk and filling up there tanks. To have the best possible reef the trick is to go slow, join a great Reef forum. Having a vision of what you like will help you save money from buying things twice.

ok after some frustrating infestations that came and went, failed peg work, inability to remove sand bed due to a packed tank etc. i am breaking down my 120 yet again.TO IMPROVE

I will be transferring all my SPS to a holding VAT in my basement (100g) that i will have my dosing setup on and a single 250MH and 2 x VHO (220watts total) over it. Here i will be holding them so i can dip them with coral RX and kill anything and everything in them so there is no question about red bugs, aefw, nudi i mean anything. But this will also give me the ability to redo my peg work and my rock work.

I will also be removing all my sand from the bottom, i know that i will not be happy with the look but i know the colors of my sps will pop. I plan on feeding heavy and skimming heavy and this will allow me to do this without having it trapped in dead spots and sinking into sand where i can get to clean.

i will also be upgrading my lights to lumen brights mini pendants from my current spider reflectors. BUT i will be keeping my Artemis bulbs that i love and give me great colors. People who swear by more expensive bulbs i will not argue but i get great colors as anyone who has been here will tell you.

When this is all done and complete i plan on incorporating a QT tank into my lifestyle where i will DIP EVERY SINGLE THING and QT it for a while before it hits my main tank. I will be able to treat fish as well.

I also plan on making a low cube like frag tank where i can propagate my acros for friends and keeping our reefs fuller.

I will take some pics of my tank currently and how it looks as well as my Vat set up, i will periodically show you how acros look and respond to tx and hopefully all makes it and it get put back together twice as nice. PICS to come soon.

thanks for all your comments. My Vat is almost full with SW and will be moving my corals shortly, i hope all survive the transition, but i will keep people posted

frezel I hope you do not mind, but what infections specifically? I am currently dealing with red bugs and majano and considering doing something similar. Taking the tank apart, nuking the rocks, treating for red bugs, removing gsp and replacing the sand bed. I do this only out of frustration and my tank is only a nano so not nearly the undertaking as yours.

Beautiful tank and good luck on the project.

i had a colony of tri color that had bite marks noted to it i dipped it and noticed AEFW, no other colonies that i could see in tank affected, but you know the saying. Red bugs are easy i had them before and killed them with Interceptor heart and worm dog medicine, worked like a charm and no ill effects, i think i treated the tank 2 x a week apart and did a small water change and have been red bug free. WIth AEFW i hear and seen the eggs so i will have different times of these things hatching. So i plan to dip outside of my main tank for a few months and what is left it tank will starve due to no acros being left. and majano dunno what that is dont wanna know what that is etc lol

did a large water change on main system today i used the water i pulled from main tank to fill my VAt up, today i also added about 20lbs of lose rock i had in my sump to vat. I am going to let both tanks settle in and tommorow i think i am gonna move over some frags of the mother colonies over to the vat to see how they do

moved and dipped almost all the SPS, and we have the first official casualty from last night, my mother colony of lemonade SPS DEAD! stay tuned. Thank god i have a frag of it in my main tank. Waiting to see what happens before i move frags over....
