Friction Loss Question

Is there anything to be gained from switching my return to 1" from 3/4? The lockline at the end is 3/4 inch. My thought is that there would be less friction loss from going to 1" even if the outlet is 3/4 inch because there would be less pressure lost on the way before it got choked down?

Your losses on straight sections are minimal. It is the elbows that slow down the flow.
Ultimately, it is the pump output inside diameter and the end nozzle (diffuser) into the tank that determines the throughput.
IMHO the difference is insignificant.
BTW, what is your goal??? To save $ on electricity??? -Wrong hobby. . . .

The turbulence caused by the size increase going up from 3/4" to 1" and then back down to 3/4" would be more than reduced friction of the straight 1" pipe unless you are running the pipe a long distance (over 100').

nah the goal would have been more flow through the sump. My new stand has almost 18 inches more rise than my last. With the new loss in head pressure, my pump is struggling to give enough flow through my fuge, which is t'd off the return. It'll probably be more effective in the long run to grab a more appropriately sized pump.
