fried fry

My clarkii fry hatched about 15-30 minutes after lights out Wednesday night. We collected a whole bunch of them with the dish-scooping-and-a-flashlight method.

Well.... The next morning I found out that my new heater wasn't working correctly and cooked the little fry at 93 all night.

Last night I was using the flashlight on the tank after lights out because I was doing a bunch of work on the tank during the day and there were a couple dozen fry still living in the tank under the rocks. I feel sorry for them as I know they aren't getting enough food in there.

hopefully I'll have things straightened out within the next 8 days for next Saturday's hatch. Unless they decide not to lay tonight. I added a tile and that's a possiblity.

Sorry to hear that, some heaters are just so undependable, maybe the next nest you can save and give a go at.
Clarki ha?
I love them and have been looking for a big pair for a year now.
Any pictures of your adults?

I'll try to get some decent pics. It is amazing how fat she gets before laying a nest. There is all sorts of nasty algae near their nest, I have an RO/DI system on order and they won't let me get close enough to clean the algae that is there!

I picked them up in the beginning of September. She was about 2 - 2.5" and he was about 3/4 - 1" shorter. They shared the anemone from the beginning even though they came out of a community tank that I believe were all wild caught. I got the largest and smallest healthy looking fish. Here is a picture I took as they were first settling in.

A week from Monday I'll try and get some video of the next spawning too. Clarkii porn...

Nice pair of blacks, I just sold mine. I can't deal with Clarki females and how rough they are on the male. Too much like humans ;) LOL

99% of the time she is really good to her mate. She does chase him a bit but not what I would call rough on him at all. I guess I got lucky.

:) thats as it should be, someone has to keep you men in line:)

Beautiful fish. Have you been able to raise any fry from them yet or are they just starting?

I have had the great luck of my true perks laying there second nest of eggs, the first was fertile much to my surprise as the male is a little over an inch long,
they are on there second nest now, it is twice as big as the first, layed in the same place, under the shelter of there anemone right out front.

I tried to get some pictures of her just before she layed as she was huge also.
Will see if I can find a good one without her all zoomed out of the picture heading for who knows where ;)

Took this 2 days before she layed her second nest of eggs.
Every time I wanted to try and get pictures the anemone was over them so didnt get one. They have allready turned color so to late.
One instance where a girl doesnt mind being called fat;)
