Crooked Reef

Two days ago I borrowed a par meter to test my reef tank lighting and while I had it I decided to test the AI prime HD I bought for my biocube. I bought the prime on 5/2 and haven't gotten a chance to build a new hood and mount it yet. I was holding it over the tank and decided to move a rock that an urchin had toppled. Reached in and my lion darted for my hand I was moving the rock with and I let the corner of the prime dip into the water. It flashed twice and died.

Since the warranty won't cover it I took it apart. Rinsed the connectors in RO/DI which is recommended to get rid of the conductive salts. Dried completely and put in a bag of rice for two days. It's shot. $200 and it never even got mounted.

That sucks but I bet the if you send it in they can repair it.

I’m sure they would be able to. I just don’t know if it worth the cost shipping it to them, paying for the repair and paying for return shipping. Water damage isn’t covered under warranty and you have to register it within 30 days to activate the warranty anyway. Plus me opening it voids the warranty. I’m going to reach out to them to see if they can give me a quote, which they likely can’t without seeing it, but they may know how much to replace the motherboard.

Heck, if they can ship me the internals at cost it may be worth it. It’s 4 screws to remove the insides. The case, lenses and power supply are fine.
