Can anyone tell me what this is. Is it an Anemone or something else. It is very small right now.

Thanks for your help

It is out of my main tank. I found it in my sump, and moved it over into a small tank I have. Up close it does not look like Atapsia up close. Looks more like my bubble tip anemone than the aiptasia I have had in the past.

If you have it QT'd and you don't mind it taking over that one rock, you could just wait and see what happens. It might turn out to be really cool, or it might turn out to be a prettier-than-normal aiptasia. :D

That is what I am thinking. Leave it there and just see what happens. I picked up some corals with rock from Dizzy and he had a red bubble tip, I know it is rare but it could have reproduced and this is a nice extra. Or it could just be a pest. I can wait and see as long as my main tank doesn't pop up with more. It was easy to pull one out. If it is something bad hopefully the 3 Pep Shrimps in my Sump and the 5 in my main tank can handle them. If it is only the one it can stay in my QT for a while.

Looks like a black sun coral to me. If you have "Marine Invertebrates" theres a photo on p. 195. Color is a little different but its shape makes me think its from the Tubastraea family. I'm baffled that it was just hanging out in your sump though - maybe its not one after all since they tend to branch.

Here's a couple of links to photos of them online:

I'd feed the little fella and give him a chance. Pretty cool looking, whatever it is. :)

If that is an aiptasia it is the only one I've ever seen in which I like. Guess you'll just have to see if the color ends up changing to a standard or keep that deep red.
