Friendly Surgeon fish

I have a clown surgeon fish and everytime I put my hand in the thank he starts to swim really fast around my arm. He has learned to take food from my hand also. The first time he started circling my hand It scared me out since I was not expecting it. Now everytime IÃ"šÃ‚´m trying to do something inside the tank he starts swimming around my arm and bullys all other fish that try to get near my arm which is fine by me since I have a dwarf scorpion and foxface in the tank also. Now I know he is friendly but IÃ"šÃ‚´ve always wanted to know how sharp his blade is. Can it really cut open skin?

Another cool thing IÃ"šÃ‚´ve seen a surgeon fish do is at the lfs near my house, they have one that everytime the owner puts his hand inside the tank he comes close to his hand and likes to get a nice scratch on his sides, it looks really cool.

It looks like the only question in this thread is "can it really cut open skin?".

Well, they are called surgeonfish for just that reason. They can cut your skin when in a defensive mode particularly since our skin softens when in water. It's their only defense in the wild.
