Friendly tangs

So I hear that the Purple and Achilles tang can be real jerks. What are some of the more friendly tangs?--I mean friendly to other tangs and other fish.

I've seen a lot of tanks with multiple tangs that seem to get along swimingly :fish1:. Is this just a matter of adding only juvenile tangs in a certain order, and avoiding tangs that look similar? How about introducing them at night in the dark? I would suggest changing the rockwork, but everyone knows that's a PITA!! :mad2: Tank size too I guess. :rolleye1:

Is there a consensus?

my yellow tang get along very well with my blue tang. They occasionally brush up against each other..don't know what they're up to..

Kole tang, tomini, naso, orange shoulders are some of the more mild manner tangs. All depends on the individual fish though.

HI

Well I believe kole tangs are pretty docile but like you say it comes down to things like tank size and whether there are similar tangs present. My usually docile yellow tang started beating his chest when I introduces a small school of anthias! Now they all get along fine.

convicts are hard to get to eat for some reason. some never have a problem out of them and some waste away quick. pick them carefully if you choose one.

i have a naso, yellow, kole and hippo in together and they all get along great. I added the hippo first, then naso then kole and finally the yellow. My kole was getting after the yellow right away but after the first night they were great.

A lot of how wells tangs get along is driven by tank size. After that you can get into different types. I would recommend a 180 if you want to keep multiple tangs and have never done so before. Even then you will still be restricted as to the types you can keep, but the length and volume of the water will really help you out.

Tangs are very terioritoral, i have a sohal and he just wont accept any one who is any where close to being as pretty as him, he even killed a copperband butterfly before i could catch him. I also hear purple tangs a re simular.

I'm planning on keeping 2 tangs, still undecided. What kind of tang would go well with a powder blue tang? Which to introduce first?

Mine are all in a 6 ft 125, the naso will probably out grow my tank before long but at only about 2 1/2" right now he is quite happy.

Sohals are known for being super aggressive. I would love to get one but my tank is too small and in a system with a lot of fish together it just isn't condusive.

Depends on the tank size. In a smaller tank you will have trouble keeping most kinds of fish with a pbt based on what people have said.

I think it depends on tank size, hiding places and colors and shapes. Usually if your going to add the same size tang, shape and color add them together to minimize agression. Also have a lot of hiding places for them. I have a 90 with a sailfin and kole. They do go at it every once in a while. The sailfin is the boss of the tank but he always makes sure the kole knows that.

I have a friend with a similar setup, and his fish all get along really well. Generally, I think nasos are pretty mild mannered, they just get huge.

I have 2 purples, 2 sailfins, vlamingii, blonde naso, unicorn, tomini, scopas, chevron, atlantic blue, yellow and hippo in a 7' long tank. They all tolerate each other well w/occ. bluffing & chases.
