My I woke this morning and my frog spawn coral has started to receed. I check my salinity and it was low at 1.022. Could this be the problem?

you will also need to check your alkalinity and nitrates. i lost a frogspawn to what i assume were out of control nitrates last summer due to negligence in my maintenance routine.
large alk swings can also cause this.
i would address the salinity, 1.022 is not great, but i would look deeper.
how is it receding exactly? can you get a good picture(s) of it?

Nitrate of 5 is not going to hurt your FS buddy.
Looks like you have something else going on. From the look of your new looking rock and the FS irritated you might have mini cycle or you didn't complete a proper cycling of your tank. I would check your ammonia first of all and go from there.

My tank has been cycled for about a month now. Water was stable for a good month and now I'm ha being a diatom bloom. I tested yesterday for ammonia nitrites and nitrates. A was 0 nitrites 0 nitrates 5ppm. Only thing that was out of whack is salinity. I'm going to test cal and alk when I get home. I have 2 colonies of zoas and a hammer coral than seem fine. As for the brown jelly I don't see any on the coral.

yeah my nitrates routinely run between 7 - 15ppm and none of my corals seem to care much.
when i was having issues last summer they were REALLY high. like well over 50ppm high.

Brown jelly disease is my concern too. That white fuzzy but can turn quickly to dead goo. I'd search for posts on that asap, especially if you have other coral that could catch it

worst advice ever.
my alk will never go above 7.8 and i prefer a flat 7. also no coral will die at 5 ppm nitrate. especially an lps.
that coral is reacting to bacteria infection(most likely), light shock, or a trauma like temperature flux.
if you have coral rx use it. otherwise research other antibacterials and treat outside the dt.
if it were me, id dose 120mg doxycycline in 2 cups of water for an hour, then rinse with a hydrogen peroxide salt water mix every other day.
if you are using a hydrometer 1.022 is fine. it means that you are really at 1.024-1.025 depending on the hydrometer and temp
i doubt fragging it would save it.

Well the good news is I bought some seachem reef dip and did my first dip about a hour ago. It did a great job allot of crap came off and the frog spawn is extending a little bit. The bad news is I lost about 1/4 of the head it's just skeleton now. I'm hoping it did the trick and it fills back out.
