Frogspawn and Branching Hammer Growth Journal

I hadn't realized just how fast these two actually grow until I was browsing through some pics from a week ago. It's crazy how much they change in just a week given the proper environment. So I thought I'd share pics as often as I can showing their growth and progression. Here's a few pics to get started.

I believe growth is measured by their increase in skeleton, not by their polyp inflating. I might be wrong though.

Yeah, that would probably be a more solid definition of growth since the polyps and tentacles shrink and inflate all the time... but the frogspawn has a lot of extending to do yet so I think there is growth left to do in the polyps as well.

Don't let them touch they will kill each other man.

Maybe. The 'frogspawn' actually looks like a partial hybrid. I see a little torch, little hammer, little frogspawn in it. So, it could play nice with other euphyllia (like hammer and frogspawns typically do) or have a NASTY sting (like torches sometimes do).

Good call out to look for fighting, but not a guarantee what so ever either.

I probably will be moving them apart... not only for the possibility of them stinging each other (which hasn't happened yet - knock on wood) but just because they grow so fast, and will likely be the largest two pieces I have. But thanks for the heads up.

Hey, those look amazing!

I'm sorry to bother but what are the scientific names for those, are they lethal to fish and what type of light do you use?

Thanks alot!

Thanks. :D

Frogspawn (Euphyllia divisa)
Branching Hammer (Euphyllia parancora)

As stated, there are hybrids, and many different variations of Frogspawn, Hammer, and branching varieties.

My lighting is a 4x 24watt Aquatic life Fixture.

I bought a branching hammer from a local reefer that had two heads, within the last 6 months it's up to 7 heads. Almost grapefruit size now, from golfball when I got it.
