Hey everyone,
So im looking at my tank today enjoying all of my tiny frags and i noticed my frogspawn has a few of its tenticals missing/melted away. i notice this because i could see more skeleton than usual on that side. All my sofites and zoa look good my candy cane is inflated and fat. Im not quite sure whats going on here?

Tank is runing at
Temp:79°
Alkalinity: 7.7 dkh
Calcium: 425
Mag:1140
These next test were done with api test kit :-( but the first batch was salifert kits.
Ph: 8.2 (im guessing here the api kits are hard to read ph)
Nitrates:20

Before i get beat up on the api test. I ran out of the salifert for these test and will be stocking back up this week :-).

Any ideas?

Image is of the spawn feom 4 days ago, i will get a current pic tommrow.

MAG isn't as important to LPS as it is to SPS, but you should be running closer to 1350, I run mine at 1400. Judging by your rocks in the photo you aquarium is pretty new? LPS corals like a dirty tank you didn't mention phosphate levels. What kind of fish load do you have? You may just need to be patient while your tank matures. My frogspawn almost receded completely when I first got it, but after adding a few extra fish and extra feedings it started to go in the right direction. Remember though the dirtier your tank is running the more maintenance is required to keep up with the algae growth.
 
The tank is super young im only 2 1/2 -3 weeks post cycle. Phosphate i have not messured and i probably should. But all that is in the tank right now is a helmet clown and my cuc.
 
Im only feeding this tank once every two days and just enough to where the clown is happy. So this tank is by no means dirty or nutruient rich.
 
I am Also doing 2 gallon water change on this 12 gallon system every week. the tank was started with 10 pounds of dry fiji and around 10 pounds of live sand . So im figuring that 2 gallon water change is right at about 25% total water valume for this system. Salinity is 1.026 and does not rise much throughout the day since i installed a ATO. Im so concerned over this spawn looking cruddy and thinking i may loose all my frags i was doing water tests at 2am this morning, i even checked for sttay voltage.
 
with all do respect we have all done it, but our tanks are not ready to be stocked with multiple corals after only 2 1/2 weeks after cycle. I had my tank running for almost 6 months before I started adding more fish and multiple corals and I still almost lost my frogspawn. you mentioned using dry rock and live sand, did you use some kind of chemical to help with the cycle process, like Dr Tims or instant oceans? In all honesty I would stop with the water changes for a little bit until the tank starts to show some kind of algae growth. Try to find a couple more fish that will fit in a small tank like yours, a pistol shrimp/goby combo may be a good choice. Your tank needs more fish poop, more beneficial bacteria, problem is your system may not be ready to absorb the extra ammonia so go slowly. Remember keeping a reef tank is a marathon not a sprint.

I am not sure of your experience, but a 12 gallon tank is not a good beginner size tank, some would say including myself that nano tanks are harder to keep then 40 gallon + tanks there is no room for error.
 
Ammonia is steady zero nitrite is steady zero. I nitro cycled the tank with bio spira. And i do have algea starting to grown on the rocks as we speak. Ive added 3 snails to clean that up 2 tiger truchus and 1 astria snail. Im going to hold off on adding any other coral for quite some time.i relize now i rushed stocking in that regard. The excitement of getting back into the hobby really got me reved up. I do have a clown fish in the tank now are you suggesting adding another fish? I would say my exsperience isnt noob level but isnt quite exsperienced. I had to do alot of refreashing when i decided to get back into it.
 
Ya, probably just too knew of a tank, while the tank may, or may not be "cycled" there are other parameters we know change with the maturity of the setup.
 
I agree i rushed way to fast into stocking corals and i will hold off and hope everything lives. The frog spawn is more than likely going to kick the bucket but on the upside other frags which include a really nice tyree toadstole , 1xmushroom 1xcandy cane (looks great) 2xzoa frag. I honestly feel foolish for rushing into it but excitment got the beat of me(palm to face). Should i skip a water change to let bacteria grow if so what should i let my nitrate get to before i change it? Nitrate as of today is 10ppm. And should i add another fish like louie sugested? Or would this potiently cause a ammonia spike?
 
LOL_ we all do it. Human nature. To properly determine additions to tank- need full tank setup= how was the sand " live" to begin with - just out of the bag or from a local setup, running a skimmer, etc. I agree with Loui - a nano/12 gallon is very difficult way to start into this hobby. You do need to know Phosphate levels. With only 12 gallons of water- there is little room for error on temp, oxygen, etc. There are experts on small tanks out there, suggest you read up.
 
My last tank was a 75 gallon trust me if my better half would allow it i would have a bigger setup. But the sand was live bag sand which is 50/50 on how live it was. No skimmer just carbon. But switch carbon to chemi pure elite because of the phosphate reduction propertys.and nylon sponge in the first chamber that i rise out once a week. 400 gallon return pump in the last chamber with a hydro flow rotating flow do hicky attached to th out put nozzle. Par 38 bulb suspended above the tank about 16 inches.
 
Ok, ya so need to wait. Sand while technically "live" it takes a bit. Rock needs time as well. Can u give frogspawn to someone else and then get it back if it survives after you get and can handle it? You dont want it dying in your setup.
 
Best pic i could get of it right now. But u can see on the right side how cruddy its looking. Is this thing going to die and nuke my tank. Should i do a preemptive strike and call it a loss. Or wait it out and hope for the best.

Well i removed the frogspawn, i looked into the tank and half of the polyps where just gone. I literally seen one blow off of it and bounce around the tank like bubble algae. Lesson learned unfornetly it took losing something to learn it. Im going to wait at least another 8 weeks before i consider adding anything else. But i have one last question for you guys. How long should i wait before i add a cleaner shrimp and i really want to add a dottyback or blenny how long should i wait for another fish? Thanks for the advice and patience guys much appreciated.
