frogspawn receding

I just got home from a three day trip and my frogspawn was pretty shriveled up. The polyps were extended a bit, but not very much. It is usually about the size of a softball when fully extended but is now about the size of a golf ball.

Ive heard that euphyllia are a good indicator of water quality but my two torches and two hammers still look as good as ever, so I dont think it is that. The flow has remained the same, as has the lighting. It is within 4" of some zoanthids, but I thought if there was chemical warfare that the frog would win that battle.

So, what should I do next? I am running carbon in case there is some sort of chemical warfare on the part of the zoa's. Should I move the frog to a new area and see how it does or do a water change and leave it where it is and see how that goes?

Thanks in advance!

For me, ive noticed that when either my frog or torch recedes, its low salinity from my ATO screwing up. Maybe check that. If not, throw in some fresh carbon and do a water change and ride it out, those things take effort to kill.

Thanks for the reply. I did not check salinity but will do so. I have water mixed but waiting on the temp to come up. Bad thing about cold weather, makes it harder to do an emergency water change.
I just replaced carbon and GFO, so ill let that do its thing until the temp comes up.

Not a problem, i definitely feel you on the cold weather part. My koi pond is even worse when things go wrong compared to my tank.

How do you keep a koi pond in chicago? My folks have one and they're in Texas. So cold to me is probably warm to you, haha. Those ponds do look amazing, but that must take a heck of a heater.

I had a Alk. Spike while I was away for a few days. Caused My Frog. To receed & even had a few heads pop off. ( polyp bailout. ) I was able to get it under control within a few Days . And my basketball size frog . was back in full swing.

While that happened to the Frog...NONE of my torches or hammers receeded.

hmm, that is another thing to check. Thanks for the heads up. Ill check and see what it is. Typically it has been running around 7.8-8.2 but i did just start dosing kalk via ato through a reactor.
