My frogspawn usually bubble in the center when they reproduce but now the stalks of the frogspawn have skinny little stalks growing out of the. they're VERY skinny and about an inch to an inch and a half long... there'd around 45-50 of them... any idea whats going on?

thanks in advance

Bill

Yup, those are new heads forming. I have one that does the same thing, every so often the big middle head divides, but usually it just pops off little mini frogspawns off the sides.

I had this happening to my frogspawn before my tank caught stray voltage and killed it, do you have any pictures I could see to compare? I am interested b/c I couldnt find anything on what it was and they were like rock hard little tubes and I didnt know what they were.

I was really worried that they were like parasites or something lol, I didnt know what they were and they didnt have heads or anything and were literally the tiniest little tubes I had ever seen. kind of had like a swirl at the base on some of them.

The nets they cast for food can irritate some corals. And those little tubes are sharp!

Can you take a picture? That would really help ID.

Mine do the same thing, it's not reproduction but the snails as tektite wrote and/or feather duster worms. Won't do any real harm. If they bother the coral (or you) just knock them off. I use my finger but they are kind of sharp so you could use like a stick (I also use a wooden sculpting tool).

My frogspawn has both of the above on it. The swirls are probably the snails as mentioned. New heads will have little miniature soft tissue on the top. I have found if you clip these and glue them to a new area that they beef up the stalk and grow to a decent size pretty quickly. I attribute this to better conditions and not being shaded by the larger heads on top of them.
