See the pic, this balloon appeared quite some time ago and is puzzling me.

Splitting head, good thing +1. My hammer blew a bubble like that and 2 weeks later there were 3 heads where there had been only one.

That's great news that it's nothing harmful. I kinda knew it was constantly growing and getting bigger, maybe because he is directly below usual pellet feeding area and quite a few end up on him every day.
By the way, I need to link to this thread from the other one related to no water changes, I only did one in the last 3 years.
I already moved this frogspawn because it was growing but if it doesn't stop, he will need to own entire corner just for himself LOL

My frogspawn colonies reproduce new heads from the sides of an existing "branch". I've never seen any reproduce in this manner.

Each new head begins as a tiny "bud" that slowly gets bigger and bigger as it adds calcium to it's structure. The heads do not form over night, so to speak.

Yes, that's what it was doing when it was young, like 2-3 heads. I could see new head grow slowly on a side.
What it is doing now is new to me, maybe they do it this way as it's quicker than growing single on a side? Maybe it's spliting one into few. Anyway, it got so big that I have no idea how many heads there is now.
And I like it, it's one of my favorites :)

My frogspawn is currently splitting, it just loses some pieces and then poof it splits. Im on head #4 and another is on its way. But... have never seen it blow a bubble.

thatsa odd, i have never seen one swell up like that before it splits. Mine just get bigger and bigger. You would not know they split if they did not deflate at night where yo can see the heads.
good luck, hope it keeps growing :-)

I have a branching hammer that has gone from two heads to about 28 last count, and I have never seen mine split like that or like Osteoicthyes's has. When one head goes to split the top 1/2" to 3/4" skeleton splits down the middle (not budding just right down the middle and they each go their seperate ways).

I agree most of my hammer heads split without bubbles. Perhaps the bubble happens with a 3 way split instead of a simple division?

my frogspawn is like yours, every head is splitting ATM and none have any bubbles. When I bought it, it had 3 heads, but it looks like 2 heads are splittling 3 ways, and the other is only splitting in 2. but there is about ~10 tiny heads that have sprouted beneath the main body of the frag.

I just took a look at mine, All three heads on mine are splitting. This thing was one head and now its on a splitting frenzy
