Frogspawn with no growth.

Iv had my frogspawn for over a year and it has not regrown a single head... My lighting is more then enough, and my water levels have been perfect for a while (had alittle cal/alk problem when the tank was only a couple months old).

I do not feed this coral at all, whatever it eats it gets from me feeding mysis and flake food.. Do you have to feed this coral in order to get it to grow? (dumb question)

How much flow is the coral getting? In Eric Borneman's book Aquarium Corals he mentions that stronger flow can dramatically increase calcification, and IME that's very true. I kept a torch frag in a hospital tank with enough flow to really toss the tentacles around, and within a few months the single head had started to split into four. At the same time, I had two heads of frogspawn in a lower-flow tank with the same parameters, and it didn't grow much at all. Now they're both in the same tank with medium flow and each is growing well. The torch has five heads, several of which are splitting again, and the froggy's heads have both started to split into four. I used to spot-feed my LPS, but now feeding the tank with homemade blender mush seems to provide the corals with enough nutrition.

mine started out as two a year ago and now it is 25+... thats really strange that yours isnt growing. i also did nothing special for the coral, good light and dont feed it?!?!?!

Mine grow like crazy and I don't taget feed. Its in a 125 with 4 powerheads on a wavemaker and I do run a calcium reactor.

are you sure it isn't a wall frogspawn? I used to have a really beautiful green one that was only one head and it opened 13 inches during the day. It buds around the perimeter of the tissue on the skeleton. Although if it is a branching frogspawn, I also agree that higher water flow increases the calcification. About 6 or 7 months ago I was given a 2 headed torch, since I moved it in a high water flow area I now have 12 heads. Each head first divided into 4 simultaneously and then 2 more heads divided in half.

to test this theory i dramatically increased the random flow over my torch by aiming my returns at it after lights on today... we shall see... it certainly opened up quicker than it usually does so maybe that is a good sign...

Don't keep moving it around. They grow in relation to the current and lights, and it takes a while for it to decide where to grow. If you change it's orientation, the process starts over.

no change in orientation,,, just change in amount of flow aimed in its general direction...

looks amazing right now... maybe pics to come...

I see buds on my Frogspawn but they usually die off. The only growth I've seen on my large Frog are the heads splitting which they do quite frequently.
