from ae1 to rebel to 30d to 7D need lense now?

well i just picked up my 7D canon and would love to get a 1 to 1 macro either canon 100mm or the sigma equiv. what do you use and is anyone selling one ?

How much money you have to spend? Go with the 100m f2.8L or for a couple hundred bucks less the 100mm 2.8 is a great lens. Just stating the obvious, a quick search would have yielded the same results You should be able to pick one up at a good price on a certain canon forum website (I don't think I am allowed to link to another forum :rolleyes ). not sure, but I think there is an IS version now. Though if I remember correctly the old one might be a little sharper. Don't quote me on that though. I'm sure either is good. I have the 100mm f2.8L non IS version.

seems there is only the 2 canon versions the L series at 900 or so and the one it replaced for about 600 or so ? Is there a tamaron or sigma series that is just as good ? or will i have to spend a grand to be happy? Also does anyone have this 7D canon if so how high can you get the iso? is 6400 the max?

I think it can go to 12,800, but I am not so sure that is really useable. Maybe to "get" a shot, but likely the quality would be pretty, medicore. I think Tamron has a 90mm Macro from what I have read it is pretty dang sharp. I haven't looked ia while though, don't remember the price.

Take a peak at the macro stick up top. I use the older, non IS, 100 macro. It's really hard to recommend against it.

Technically the 7D will go to 12800 but I'd never dream of using it. Even at 100 iso, the 7D is noticeably noisier than my 5D. I've used it, quite successfully, at 1600 but that's certainly not my first choice.

Another thing about high iso shooting is exposure is critical. It's actually better to overexpose slightly and bring it back down in post.

when shooting in low light to one candle light scenerio the high iso helps alot as long as the exposure is correct. but how do you get it to that setting of over 6400 mine is stuck there. it can go higher correct.?

You have to go into your custom functions and turn on ISO expansion. Highlight tone priority also needs to be turned off.

thanks for the insight can not wait to get the canon 100mm ls lense i think i have sold my self on it.
