From Disbelief to realization...

Alright by tomorrow ill officially be in hypo, i took it extra long i had to go away for a day and all the fish are doing super well and eating and acting good and no signs of ich so I'm not worried about getting to hypo quickly but tomorrows WC it should be at 1.009

I think ill be adding the ATO from my DT to this tank for the month and just top up the DT the old fashioned way

Ammonia hasn't been to bad but I've been doing 5-10gallon WC to drop the salinity regularly. Wondering if there is any reason not to use prime to help keep the ammonia at zero or just keep doing water changes?

Update (I'm talking to myself but thats ok lol)
Added the ATO from the DT to the QT

Kinda had a scare today last night tested the water and Amm was at basically 0ppm the badge showed less than .02 and today while at work my wife said the fish were all hovering at the bottom and not looking excited came home from work too see the amm up to 1ppm and the PH dipped down all in like a 10 hour period so did WC plus added some prime seemed to get it under control (never thought running this would be this hard) fish still all eating so hope it was averted for now

will this get any better or am i going to be playing catch up for the whole month?

Are you using any cycled/seeded media in there (can't remember from your previous posts)?

If not, the ammonia battle will just continue.

I added some cheato and a chunck of live rock but not a lot

Yeah, when the ammonia shoots up it happens kinda fast. And everytime it happens, it burns the fishes gills which is why they react the way they do. By now a pattern should be emerging - you can go X number of days before ammonia becomes a problem. Nothing you can do except stay on top of it with WCs, or dose Prime in a pinch.

If you have a powerfilter with bio media, you could try pouring some Bio-Spira over the media to see if you could "seed" some biological filtration. I know a lot of people do this in reg QT... but I'm not sure how well it would work in hypo conditions.

Did another 50% WC yesterday too

Flasher wrasse died this yesterday before WC and the lubblocks also isn't looking to good today i think that amm spike got to them i couldn't do a WC fast enough but they were also the most hit with the ich initially...

Now the mandarin is being picking on the frozen ( what i was worried about ) so I'm hatching brine shrimp and i hope the christmas wrasse will eat them as well

Any ideas what i can get the mandarin to eat minus adding a rock from the DT to here for pods?

6 line died this am not sure why the wrasses arnt handling the hypo well the amm is gone now and the tangs and chromis and mandrin all look good no spots or anything the lublock wrasse looks the next sickest idk

Man idk what I'm doing wrong Lublocks is going to die soon

I'm doing 20-25g WC every 3 days no amm problems tangs chromis and Christmas wrasse look good mandrin looks good but won't eat

Not sure why the fish are dying water testing good
Amm 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 10ppm before last WC
Ph 8.2

Any ideas or is hypo hard on wrasses

Wish I could help you, buddy. But I don't know anything about hypo. :( Are you still seeing spots on the fish?

No no spots anymore, mandrin died this am double checked water all looks good but the nitrate is 10ish which shouldn't be a problem

Nitrate isn't a problem for fish - only corals/inverts. Enemy #1 in QT is ammonia. But being you are using an ammonia reducer, you have to rely upon the ammonia alert badge - as a lot of test kits will give false positives with ammonia reducers.

Have you tested the pH lately? I know from reading other threads about hypo that a lot of times you have to buffer the water to keep the pH up. Too low pH might be what's killing your fish. Probably anything lower than 7.6 needs to be buffered - you really want to keep it at least 7.8.

Ph is good lub block wrasse died today

Starting to think I shoulda did copper don't know why everyone is dying
I have and ato on it no amm and idk

Is it possible these fish have Marine Velvet instead of Ich? Velvet is a fast killer that hypo has no effect on.

Well Update time

Only 4 fish have pulled throughout the treatment so far Naso Tang and 3 chromis

I have another 10 days left of hypo for it to be a full month since i seen any spots on the fish, But most of the fish that died in hypo QT tank had no signs of spots or velvet or anything just stopped eating and died.Last fish to go was the yellow tang stopped eating and got some red on him then died.

Now most of the fish were wrasses so I'm not sure if they just didn't take to the QT or hypo or if there was something that affected them the most cause right from the start of the treatment they seemed to not like it.

Water has been good I'm doing 50% Wc at least once a week and amm has been zero Ph staying around 8.1ish and salinity at 1.009 with a ATO attached

Im don't know if i missing an invisible killer thats getting my fish or if this is just how it goes sometimes, I'm kinda worried after the treatment is over to add them back if they have anything but the remaining fish look 100% healthy eating strong and swimming fine so idk
