From Disbelief to realization...

Ok i could do that.

Also I'm going on vacation on march 1st for a month my brother is house sitting and can run the DT and the QT so I'm wondering about time line for fallow and if i should put the fish back in DT before i go or have him watching both tanks

After 9 more days of hypo i have 2 weeks to raise salinity and watch treat them before i leave

Jan 8th is the first day Fallow for the DT so by the end of Feb the tank would have been fallow for 7 and a bit weeks

Or should i just get him to watch both tanks and figure out after I'm back at the end of march giving it over 3 months fallow which is maybe overkill (just thinking the QT tank is a little more unstable compared to the DT so it would be easier for him to maintain that but i don't want to rush its as well)

How confident are you in your brother's "fish keeping" abilities? For example, can you trust him to monitor the ammonia in QT and do WCs as needed? And to take care not to cross contaminate your DT after fooling with the QT? There are a lot of little things that we s/w enthusiasts do that most "normal people" wouldn't even think about. ;) Then again, maybe your brother has s/w aquariums of his own . . .

At 6 weeks fallow you have 95% chance of eradication. I say 6 weeks because you don't want to just dump all the fish back in your DT and then leave for a month. This gives you a week to be sure everything is alright in the DT before you go.

Yea he does have a sw tank but it's a small one and this is on the edge of what if like him to be monitoring (amm and WCs in the qt) man tough one

Update time

Well raised the salinity of the QT slowly, and sunday was the day to get the fish back to there home. Approx 7 and a bit weeks fallow for the DT and over a month in QT hypo (last bit being raising salinity back up) the remaining fish Naso Tang 2 chromis were ready to go back. All the fish started to act a lot more "normal" as the last few days of salinity became closer to the 1.025 the main tank is. All eating like pigs Zero sign of any sickness or ich and tang eating nori every other day.

Today was the 2nd day in the DT and everything is almost back to status quo, tang took a bit to settle in (i think the flow was big cause there was little flow in the QT) but all have settled in and showing no signs of stress or problems

I have learned A TON during this and inspite of it all has made me a way better hobbyist.

All in all i have came to a few conclusions

-Having something (QT )in place prior is paramount

-While ich killed 4 of my fish in the DT initially my denial and inaction probably killed 5 more as they got to sick to make it through the treatment

-While I had an ammonia badge and was testing and doing 50% WC every few days... in between WCs during the 2nd week that i had a ammonia spike from next to 0 the night before to over 2.5 in the course of 10 hours and didn't have enough water made up to do a proper water change and had to work which caused (what i think is most of the wrasses to die) I'm pretty sure the ich didn't kill all my wrasses as they never started to look bad till after that and they never seemed to recover from it

-So having a system in place and proper planning and preparation is huge

Thanks for all the help hope others can learn from what happened to me and prevent this or help them throughout the treatment process cause it is possible and its totally worth it even if i only saved the 3 fish

Thanks again
