FS: 1 ton chiller

Hey all. Been a while since I've been on but still have a few things from the tank to sell. I'll probably post more later but for now I'll throw the chiller up for sale. It's a DIY setup using a 1 ton titanium chiller barrel, Thermal expansion valve, and a 1 ton mini-split A/C unit. Very quiet and efficient for it's size. Can also be used to heat as well although I never used it for that. It's currently wired to run off an X-10 outlet but can also be used with a ranco controller or other type of controller. It runs off 110v 15 amp circuit and when running draws about 700-750w. Also inluded is the indoor portion of the A/C mini split system so you can use it and a room A/C unit as well with the remote control (not a chiller and A/C unit at the same time). This unit will work on anything from 240- 750 gallon systems depending on your heat load. I used it on my system which had about 200 gallons of water in my garage as well as the 375g display tank and it kept up with the load even in summer. Just let me know if you have any other questions. Price is $800 for everything needed from the lines to the freon. You'll need to have a HVAC tech out to evac the line set but that's quick and easy.

Dang it, I just bought a 1/2 hp chiller for more than what your asking. Well somebody's going to get a good deal.

It sure does seem like yesterday! I still can't believe it's gone- the room is so empty :). I'm sure we'll be back once we've settled in after the move. We just didn't want to deal with moving the chiller if we didn't have to. I think it's a fair price for what your getting as it would cost a lot more to duplicate or imitate. Not the best time of year to sell a chiller but you'll be ready for next summer :)

what are you doing with the other split unit in the picture?
i dont supose that is part of the deal...

The split unit I'm selling comes with the indoor unit as well so it can be used either way. The other unit in that picture is currently hooked up as it was designed to- a mini-split A/C unit. Are you interested in both units or just the A/C unit? I can sell them both together or seperate if you like.

It's kind of hard to say what this will add to your electric bill as it really depends on the heat load. I think this would have no problem what so ever keeping up with your tank and even in summer it would probably only run a few times a day. The chiller tube itself was designed and used on lobster tanks that need to be way colder than our tanks and the mini-split unit is very efficient. I would think if yours runs a lot and uses even half the energy this one does that your bill wil go down just because it doesn't need to run as long as your current chiller.

Got some PM's asking for some more pics. I thought I had some saved already but I couldn't find any. If there is a certain picture you would like just let me know and I'll try to get it for you.

Some people have PM'd me about the chiller barrel spec and the A/C specs so I thought I'd throw these websites up to help.

Here is where the titanium chiller barrel came from- it's the 1 ton model.

SW Wilson

Here is some info on the mini-split unit. Look for the soleus model # KFR-09G/W.
