I have lost a few fish but for the most part they are pretty aware of the nem and stay away from it. Except for my Striated Tang he gets REALLY close! :spin2: Drives me nutz!! One of these days he will get to close!

I wouldn't mind occasionally losing a small, cheap fish - that's just nature. But I had a BEAUTIFUL, big, healthy, hand-tame powder blue tang in my 125. It was my centerpiece, a real star. Then, one morning, when I checked on the tank, it was gone - and there was a pile of bones next to the carpet.

Though, to be fair, that was the ONLY fish that thing ever ate. Other than that, and one "oops I crawled into the overflow" incident, it was a model citizen.

my Red Rose anemone has eaten 3 fish so far a wrasse,cardinalfish and a Carberryi Anthias..

fish need to learn or die i guess lol

it'd be a risk with almost any type of fish other than clownfish, and even they get eaten sometimes.

One of my first "reef" tanks back in the day was an "anemone" tank with just 'nems and a pair of clowns. Honestly, out of all my tanks, I think I miss that one the most.

bumping question

Most fish are smart enough to stay clear. But there are some pretty big risk's especially with carpets. BTA's and LTA's usuallly don't have a strong enough sting to kill a decent sized healthy fish. The type of fish you stock plays into it as well. IME mandarins and blennies do not last long in my tank. I recently watched a Midas blenny try and take a piece of krill from the carpet, can you guess who won that fight??
