Hello,
If anyone is interested, I am in the process of disconnecting and cleaning my NatuReef denitrification reactor. The model is a CDECX-2.
This model is stated to be able to handle up to a 240g system.
If your are not familiar with this unit, it is an electronically controlled denitrifier that uses natural bacteria to "eat" the nitrates and converts them to a harmless gas. This model also has the ability to lower your phosphates.
It will cycle up to 6 times in a 24 hours period, thus, exchanging and processing about 54 gallons a day / 1,620 gallons per months.
The reaction chamber measures: 17x10x15 inches (hold about 9 gallons of water)
The Controller/Feeder measures: 9x4.5x9 inches
You can acquire more information about this unit at the NatuReef web site.
I purchased it from Coral Sea Pets about 6 or 7 years ago and it has worked flawlessly since. Robbie guided me through the cycling process at first.
Do to some poor planning on my part, it will not fit in my (soon to be established) 210-g reef, so I have to sell it. I really hate to get rid of it because it really does work; but I have no choice. My loss is your gain...
You will need to add your own small power heads. I used a MaxiJet 600 in the chamber to circulate the water and another MaxiJet 600 to supply water from my sump into the reactor. The reactor was setup to dump the water back into my sump via gravity. You might also need to replace the tubing from the powerhead in your sump that will feed the reactor; and, replace the tubing that returns the processed water back into the sump. You will also need to acquire some of the NatuReef Phosphagone solution because I do not have any to offer you.
Cycling of the unit and testing (Nitrates) is required to establish the bacteria again and each of the 6 daily cycles that the unit can run per day.
Once you have it cycled and running the total number of cycles you need to lower and maintain your Nitrates at or near 0, you would just need to replenish the NatuReef fluids in the feed bottles as they are used up.
The unit has been around for years and retails for about $700.
I am asking $250 for the reactor and the controller/feeder. I also have 1 1/2 gallons of the Nitragone solution (included in the price) and the two small bottles that hold both the Nitagone and the Phosphagone solution where the controller pulls from (using its own peristaltic pump) into the reactor.
I will check my closet again, but I am pretty sure that I do not have any more of the Phosphagone solution to offer you.
Please PM me if you are interested.
I will take some pictures and upload them later after I have cleaned it all up.
Good Luck And Have Fun!!!;
:thumbsup:
