FS: NatuReef Electronicaly Controlled Biological Denitrification Reactor / CDECX-2

Hello,

If anyone is interested, I am in the process of disconnecting and cleaning my NatuReef denitrification reactor. The model is a CDECX-2.

This model is stated to be able to handle up to a 240g system.

If your are not familiar with this unit, it is an electronically controlled denitrifier that uses natural bacteria to "eat" the nitrates and converts them to a harmless gas. This model also has the ability to lower your phosphates.

It will cycle up to 6 times in a 24 hours period, thus, exchanging and processing about 54 gallons a day / 1,620 gallons per months.

The reaction chamber measures: 17x10x15 inches (hold about 9 gallons of water)

The Controller/Feeder measures: 9x4.5x9 inches

You can acquire more information about this unit at the NatuReef web site.

I purchased it from Coral Sea Pets about 6 or 7 years ago and it has worked flawlessly since. Robbie guided me through the cycling process at first.

Do to some poor planning on my part, it will not fit in my (soon to be established) 210-g reef, so I have to sell it. I really hate to get rid of it because it really does work; but I have no choice. My loss is your gain...

You will need to add your own small power heads. I used a MaxiJet 600 in the chamber to circulate the water and another MaxiJet 600 to supply water from my sump into the reactor. The reactor was setup to dump the water back into my sump via gravity. You might also need to replace the tubing from the powerhead in your sump that will feed the reactor; and, replace the tubing that returns the processed water back into the sump. You will also need to acquire some of the NatuReef Phosphagone solution because I do not have any to offer you.

Cycling of the unit and testing (Nitrates) is required to establish the bacteria again and each of the 6 daily cycles that the unit can run per day.

Once you have it cycled and running the total number of cycles you need to lower and maintain your Nitrates at or near 0, you would just need to replenish the NatuReef fluids in the feed bottles as they are used up.

The unit has been around for years and retails for about $700.

I am asking $250 for the reactor and the controller/feeder. I also have 1 1/2 gallons of the Nitragone solution (included in the price) and the two small bottles that hold both the Nitagone and the Phosphagone solution where the controller pulls from (using its own peristaltic pump) into the reactor.

I will check my closet again, but I am pretty sure that I do not have any more of the Phosphagone solution to offer you.

Please PM me if you are interested.

I will take some pictures and upload them later after I have cleaned it all up.

Good Luck And Have Fun!!!;

She is all clean now and ready to go to a good home.

By the way, in case you are wondering, the cycling of this denitrator will not affect your aquarium in any way. The cycling will occur within the reactor itself only. This cycling is to allow the Nitrifying bacteria to grow within this enclosed environment.

Oh, and I found an almost full bottle of the Phosphagone solution way in the back of my closest. This is would also be included in the price.

Below is a picture I took just after cleaning it today:

PM me if you are interested.

This sale is pending at the moment. The individual interested in it is measuring to ensure it will fit where they want to install it.

I will post again if this sale is final or if it is still available.

Going once, going twice,...SOLD.

Same here Thorton; it was nice to meet you too!!! Like I stated, I would recommend that you call the Coral Sea Pets store and schedule some time with Robbie. Take the controller/feeder with you and Robbie will be able to guide you through it.

Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or concerns. I can try and guide you too; but, Robbie is the guru.

You are going to be extremely happy with that denitrator!!!

Yeah, I'm the hunt for robbie as we speak. I called the store and they did not have his number or anyway to contact him. They said that they had my number and would call me back if they track down his number. As well I contacted natureeef directly i know that he worked with them alot. I'm gonna run up the street in a sec and grab 2 maxi jets and some extra hose. worse case I'll be in touch with you and just do some old fashion reading of the manual. :smokin:

Hey;

I just emailed Eva and Robbie about this asking them if they still perform service on aquariums. If so, I asked them for an email address and/or phone number that I could forward to you. I will let you know when I hear back from them.

I have had Robbie come over my house to assist me with installing equipment that I could not do, and I know he is not the cheapest; but, he is worth every penny!!!

I'll PM you as soon as I hear back from them.

It is probably a good idea for you to read through the manual anyways. It will help you get familiar with all the parts and how it works.

Good Luck And Have Fun!!!;
:thumbsup:

cool. thanks. just got back from the store i got a maxijet 900 and a 600. They didn't have 2 600's so i figure i'll put the 900 on the sump feed and the 600 on the inside.

just a funny side note since the thing is sold

any one remember the old coralseas pets and how the guy said that it was the denitrators that kept his po4 and no3 at 0...
lol yes im sure it was the denitrator and not the fact that all of the tanks had more calurpa then the worlds largest refuge.

btw if you havent stopped in since the new owners took over. they really cleaned the place up
on that note

Sorry but that assumption is completely wrong!

That particular unit is extremely efficient in fact I've seen it and used it. It works as advertised.

We sometimes mock what we don't know- I would have bought it in a heartbeat.

im not saying that the units dont work... they are a rather simple device

im just saying i found it funny that they made no mention of the ammount of calurpa growing in the system ( so of course their was enough po4 and no3 for the calurpa to grow)

natureef product are great. . .

re read my post you will see im not mocking a product

I've been on the fence to get one of these for years.. the price was right.... we'll see. I'll be doing some before and after pics ect. with test results ect. I just finished getting everything plumbed ect. been waiting to hear back from robbie on setup. If I don't hear from him in the next day or so. I'm just going to follow the manual... that and I need to get by coral fragger101's place and pick up the asm skimmer for eval. as well. damnit! so little time. lol

Hey Thorton, feel free to contact me should you have need any help and you are not able to get in contact with Robbie. I can try and help you.

I will tell you that you may need to clear out the settings I had on the controller. I believe the instructions assume that you are starting out fresh, and that there are no preset settings in the controller.

Good Luck And Have Fun!!!;
