fsureefer88's 65 mixed reef

Hey everyone, I'm new to RC but have been on The Reef Tank for about 6 years. Finally made the move over here. Been keeping saltwater tanks for about 15 years, and reef tanks for the past 6.

This is my current tank, a 65 mixed reef. Has been running almost a year now. It started life as a simple 40 breeder build, with the intent of growing a lagoon style tank with seagrass. That didn't work well so I bought an Eshoppes Ghost Overflow and sump to get it done right. I cracked the first tank while drilling it, so had to buy 40breeder #2. That one was up for about 6 months and I noticed a pressure crack in the back glass. Evidently I tightened the 2 bulkhead fittings on the overflow box slightly differently, so over time a pressure crack formed. I decided that I am done with the thin glass of the 40's, so I ordered a reef ready 65 gallon tank from my LFS. This tank has been great so far.

Equipment-

-Current USA Orbit LED light (soon to be supplemented with 2 t5's)
-Seaclone skimmer (works ok, was free from a friend, will upgrade when it dies)
-Aquahub ATO system
-Other standard stuff like heater, return pump, blah blah blah

Livestock-
-Juvenile sailfin tang
-Damsel that seems to know his place
-Filefish (may be removed, I think has been munching on my Duncan coral)
-Cleaner wrasse
-Yellow watchman goby/tiger pistol shrimp
-Peppermint shrimp
-Hermits/nassirus snails/conch/serpent star
-Green birdsnest
-Green/brown/blue montipora
-Derasa clam
-Duncans
-Giant hairy mushrooms
-GSP
-1 orange ricordea
-Mixed zoas
-Clove polyps
-Green neptha
-Devils hand leather (I believe)
-Candy cane

I think that covers it. Pictures below will show from the beginning (stand building) to its current state.

Feedback is welcome, thanks!

Picked up a red/gold chalice and a corky sea finger gorgonian, as well as an encrusting LPS that I haven't identified or taken a picture of yet

Took some pictures tonight, and purchased a frag of montipora setosa.

Awesome, glad I know someone on here as well! Squat away, the inactivity gets boring but I feel the need to keep posting pictures. Either of yall know why TRT dropped off the map? Seems like quality went away during my tankless hiatus

The growth out of the montipora is crazy, growing about 1/4 inch per week once it got acclimated. Duncan's were getting nipped at by my old filefish, once I got rid of him the duncan has been recovering nicely.

Nice pics! What are you taking them with?

I was considering a filefish, but I too have a decent Duncan.. Wonder if that's a good idea after all. I know it can be fish specific, but the wife was frowning when I was showing her pics of filefish, so that probably helps remove that one from the list of possible additions.

Thanks! I am taking them all with my phone, it's a Samsung Galaxy S6 active. Once you get the angle right and adjust the camera settings slightly, it takes pretty decent pictures for a phone.

The filefish is a risky move. Just have to keep and eye on the corals and see if it will nip at them. It was very clear and the damage seems temporary, so may be worth a try if you can test one out. They are really really cool fish
