Fuge: DSB w/ High Flow ok?

I was previously planning a remote deep sand bed, but the reality of it is, that's going to be a pain to stuff in the cabinet. I'd have to build a little stand for it, drill the bucket, etc.

I have a pretty big fuge, it takes up 24" x 10" x 16" of space. I'm going to be putting a ball of chaeto into it, raised above the bottom so it doesn't collect detritus, and I'm going to fire a seio 620 right at the ball to keep it suspended and tumbling.

I'm thinking of just throwing in a 4" sand bed in there to help the natural nitrate reduction. Then I'm thinking of using two tunze 6025's to tumble the chaeto, and to keep anything from settling on the sand.

Will this work at keeping the sand clean and help with NNR? Will the sand get too dirty eventually?

I just think that cheato are just real good at attracting dietrus.. so no matter what, they'r gonna end up with dietrus... I just dump em in a bucket full of tankwater and shake off the crap... sure your going to loose some pods but, they'r going to breed back again anyways..

hey charles, yes that's what I do with my current tank. I think I posted exactly the same thing you just said a week or two ago on some other thread haha. awesome.

I don't mind detritus on the chaeto, but I'm just going to make sure the flow keeps detritus off the sand.

Wow. You can afford Tunze 6025's for your SUMP?
Art only use the best stuff :D .. If his sump is a little bit bigger, he would get a vortech for it ;) ..

aren't tunze 6025's fairly cheap? compared to seio 620's I think they're almost the same if you get the seios + those algae free magnetic mounts. Plus with all the BAR discounts on tunze things these days... ;)

Also it uses so much less juice, I think it might be worth it in the long run.

I might make my fuge kinda nice, not just one big brick of chaeto so this might be a good idea too =P

My sump's not big enough for a vortech! hehe
